I try to read a portion of the Bible every day. I have a goal to read the whole Bible each year. I too view it as a road map in this dark world. One of my favorite portion is the following:
Psalm 1:1-3 (Contemporary English Version)
1God blesses those people who refuse evil advice and won't follow sinners or join in sneering at God. 2Instead, the Law of the LORD makes them happy, and they think about it day and night. 3They are like trees growing beside a stream, trees that produce fruit in season and always have leaves. Those people succeed in everything they do.
Happy Bible reading!

I do read my bible everyday. I believe it is the word of God (and not a history book!) It is the book of the law according to Joshua 1:8. It is a lamp to our feet according to Psalm 119:105 It is inspired by God according to 2 Timothy 3:16. It is also the sword of the spirit according to Ephesians 6:17. I like to put it this way to describe the main purpose of the bible:
BASIC
INSTRUCTIONS
BEFORE
LEAVING
EARTH
Happy my lotting and don't forget to read your bible everyday!

I do have a Bible, but I probably won't actually be able to read one until I can get one on audio. I would consider reading it (as well as a bunch of other religious books, like the books of the Torah as well). But I think as far as it being a road map to your life, it is far too outdated. There is stuff in the Bible that says you should offer up your virgin daughter for gang rape if someone wants to rape your male neighbor. And you should stone adulterers. There is so much crazy stuff in there I certainly don't think that the Bible should be a moral compass for anyone.

No.. I don't, nor do I own one.
Nearly every culture and religion has varying beliefs on how to live a "pure" life, but nearly all of them have a belief system like the 10 Commandments in common. If I teach my child moral (lying is bad, stealing is bad, be good to everybody) and read her Aesop's Fables.. it's just as arbitrary as reading the Bible.
