Nearly all the animals that live with me are adopted from shelters. Our two dogs, Daisy and Sandy are both really exceptional pets and I can't imagine what it would be like without them!
Sandy, I'll tell her story here, was abandoned when her owners sold their house. She was left in the back yard and forgotten, except by some neighbors who fed her scraps from their kitchen. Because of this, she became severely overweight and it started to affect her health. Looking as bad as she did there was little hope that she would be adopted, so my boyfriend's mom brought her home to be rehabilitated.
Well, she fit in with the family and the existing dog, Daisy (also a shelter rescue) so well that the family became foster failures. She's a fairly old dog, but in much better health now. She goes on walks, runs around the yard and pretty much begs for food constantly!
Tell me the story of your rescued or not rescued pets!

My current pets are all rescues.
My 14 year old rabbit came from a girl who was going off to college. This was back when the rabbit was 4 years old. Now he's my old guy.
My younger rabbit (probably around 3 years old) was found and captured by me at a yard sale. She's bratty but I like her anyway.
And then I'm currently fostering 4 guinea pigs, all rescued from animal shelters.
Currently I'm not really planning to add any more pets since I'm trying to get into vet school and don't want to have to move with a ton of pets. But I hope that eventually I'll have time and room for a dog that can go running with me. And I'd probably rescue more rabbits and guinea pigs as well if I had the time.

I only have one animal that wasn't a rescue animal. All the rest are though, and have been through the years. I have 2 indoor kitties, and they are both rescue cats. They're both at least 25# (not fat, well proportioned but huge). They were both ready to be put to sleep because nobody wanted huge cats like that. I've had the one for about 15 years, and she was around 3 when I got her. That's 'Sweetie', and she lives up to her name lol. The other one is Garfield. He looks the same in coloring and face like the cartoon Garfield. He's different, but loveable. You never know where that huge kitty is going to curl up at. (Scared the whoop out of me today when I was walking by a bookcase and he was stretched out on top of the bottom shelf of books where I couldn't see him. Stuck his paw out when I was walking by. Boy, did I ever jump hahaha) Then I have an outside barn cat that was a rescue too. Syd is the ultimate barn kitty. Mice don't stand a chance out there in the barn! I tried bringing him in on the porch when it got around freezing, but he prefered to be outside.
My dog is the only one that's not a rescue, she's a purebred German Shepherd, and my husband bought her many years ago when we were still married. I prefer getting the rescue ones though, they need a home and some love!
