Every year, a substantial number of traffic accidents are caused by drunk driving. As of yesterday, China has issued more strict law to provent driving after alcohol drinking. 15 day custody is to be imposed to those against the law. On the first day of implementation, supervision showed good progress, but still some found voilating, either for ignorance or for neglectance.
What is the law on this issue in your country?

I am not sure of how many days imprisonment there is for drunk driving in India but i do know that the cops have become very strict as there are regular offenders. If a person is caught the first time then he is warned and let off. If he is caught a second time then he is fined heavily and if he is caught a third time then he is fined and sent to jail i am not sure for how many days but i think that it is 1 month of simple imprisonment. Unfortunately people, including educated and mostly youngsters are the offenders and they think that they can get away with it but ever since the police got strict the number of offenders in my city Mumbai have reduced considerably.

The law here is the first time you get caught they suspend your driving priviledges for a year plus 30 days in jail plus fines and court costs. They sometimes let people serve this time over the weekends if they have a job. It also costs a lot of money to get your license back when it's time. Reinstatement fees and such.

zhuhuifen46,
In Singapore, the authorities are running Anti Drink Driving campaigns continuously and entertainment establishments are encouraged to enforce withholding car keys from drunk drivers.
It is a serious offense if one is caught driving under influence as the errant driver may loose his/her driving privileges and licenses or even be banned if there is any deaths resulted in an accident. Also, when such fatalities happened, jail sentences may be even mete out.
Driving license in my country is not easy to come by and if errant drivers are suspended, they will need to go through the grueling and strict tests to be reinstated.
So, you may say that our country is very strict in this area and I would say that it really had done a lot of good for the people here.

I think the problem is not only the drunk driving. In facts, I believe that the accidents caused by racing cars are more serious. The son of the moneybags does not care the poor's life.
