What one considers as successful varies a great deal from one person to another. For some it means a good career, or earning a lot of money, or being famous in some way. For others it means living a happy life of their own choosing.
What are your personal ideas on what success means? Do you consider yourself successful?
Thank you in advance for all responses.

Hi Karen!
You are right everyone one has different meaning of 'success'. For many, it is power, money or fame. Some of the people do not feel happy, even after abundance of wealth. There is no end to greed, but one needs to make a full stop at some point of time. I think the one who feels contended with whatever he has achieved in his life, should be termed as a successful person. I consider myself a successful person because me and my better half have 'secured' jobs, we earn substantial amount to sustain our life. Also, we are blessed with a son and a daughter ( a complete family) and we live in our own house and able to run the show without any glitches.

Hello my friend. Yes, the definitions of success number as many as the population of our big beautiful world. Greed and wealth never automatically equal success. I am glad that you feel as you do. I am also happy to know that in your eyes and the eyes of many others, I am sure, that you are content to have created for yourself a successful life :)

You are so right, my friend. A very wise quote from Abraham Lincoln, who at one point suffered bouts of depression: Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.
You echo that perfectly.

Hello Antiquelady. I should say that against many hardships, you are indeed a success. It's never easy raising children alone and getting or keeping ourselves out of debt. And health problems do creep up, so God bless you for being such a fine and courageous person. I admire your outlook

For me being successful is having a good marriage, a good place to live, having my family near me and being content with what I have. I've never wanted the mansions, tons of money, exotic vacations and all that...it just seems like a waste.

I am with you on that, Twoey. The most precious things in this life...home, faith, love, family, friends, good health...no mansion or diamonds or billions can compare with that.
Your idea of success is a beautiful thing, and I thank you for sharing it.

Good morning. You are right. To some success is ALL about money, and yet so many wealthy or famous people seem troubled anyway. That tells us money alone does not equal success.
I appreciate you taking the time to comment.

HI Friend,
For me success is mantle satisfaction. When you feel satisfied after doing something or achieving something then you are successful. IT can be anything, a good job, a huge amount of money or just making a cup of tea...any thing

Hello Informer. You make a lot of sense. Success comes in individuals packages, so to speak, and with enough of those, I imagine one feels an over-all sense of satisfaction. It varies from person to person. I can feel like a success in one area, and a failure in another, for instance.
Thank you for you response.

Hi Mickly. You make a good point. The defination of success does vary, depending on what one wants to achieve and who they end up being in life. I hope that you have reached your goals so far so as to feel like you've succeeded.

Me again lol. I meant to ask, do you personally feel that you've reached your goals so far as to feel successful in the here and now?

I don't consider myself succesful now, only partial successful as I'm not yet able to do what I want to do and achieve. I have a list of things that I want to achieve, and I work hard toward it. It not easy, but I will try. But I'm thankful for where I am now. I have a stable job and now I able to pay my loan without depending on my parents, a friend who trust me and a loving family.
I'm afraid once I said I'm successful, I stop working and satisfy with what I have, so I prefer to say, I'm thankful for where I am now, and looking forward to do more. Happy Mylotting

Hi Ucue. I feel that we can see ourself successeful in one area, but still reaching for success in another, as you've pointed out. The whole story is not told until we reach an older age. Being thankful for where one is now is a beautiful thing. I appreciate your insights :)

For me success does not mean having a lot of money or a high position in society. I consider a person successful if he is doing what he loves to do and he is happy and contented with his life. If he is able to reach his goals for himself and his family, that is success.

Hi Giada. I absolutely agree. If we all measured success by money alone, shoot, most of us wouldn't have a chance lol. Like you, I feel that if we live up to "who" we are and live a life that gives us a sense of contentment and having met our goals, then we've succeeded.

Hi Karen.....I believe that one is successful as long as they have met all the goals they set for themselves.
As for me..I believe my life was very successful, not in monetary value but in love and having my children.
A parent can always say they have been successful if their children have remembered the values they were taught as children and have started instilling these values in their own children.
You cannot always measure success by how much you have in life, but what you have done with what you were given.

Hello Flutter. If we were to measure success by money alone, that would be a great injustice to all our blessings and successes that no amount of money could buy. I agree, that each time we meet a goal, it is yet one more success. And I love love love that last sentence. So true!

I think success means acheiving your dreams and accomplishing your goals. I think I'm successful, I finished high school and I'm going to University.

Hello Mariama. For one so young, yes indeed, you are successful in pursuing a great education. This will lead to many other successes in your life. Pursuing our dreams and accomplishing goals we set for ourselves has a lot to do with how successful we feel. I wish you continued good luck!

I think it would be best to consider success from a societal perspective. To put it succinctly, success is achieved when an individual contributes to and improves society more than he or she receives from it. According to this def, I don't believe I am successful as of now, but I hope to be in the future!

Hi Duncan. Giving back and giving more is a wonderful way to succeed in one area of our lives. I think we each have more than just a few successes. Indeed, we can have many. I appreciate your insight here, and I hope the weekend ahead will be fun and relaxing for you.

Well success is not in 100% or numbers, its all in the satisfaction of your effort and giving a good fight.

Just a thought.....success is relative and depends on one's frame of mind. I consider somebody successful if he has somebody to share his success with otherwise all those things he has successfully done are all in vain.
