Hi myLotters, which do you prefer, desktops or laptops?
I find pros and cons of both, but the final answer really depends on what type of person you are.
Desktops offer better power, speed and performance. You're able to run more tasks and do more things at once, since of the better power and speed. However, you cannot transport a desktop around (well you could, but that would be a big pain.)
Laptops are less powerful and fast but I believe that most people buy it for convenience. It's so easy and portable: move it anywhere around the house, bring it on a roadtrip, a trip overseas or in the country: it's ultimate portability.
In conclusion, I would pick desktops but that's because I don't 'move' around a lot. I prefer to stay in one place. However, it could be different for everyone of us.
Share your opinion, and happy myLotting!

i think that both are ok. sometimes its handy to have a laptop especially when you're always on-the-go.
each have their own pros and cons. a laptop is handy if you're the type who's always traveling. downside is replacing/upgrade one of the part is a tad expensive. desktop computers are ideal of more ideal of multimedia stuffs and games. the upgrading/replacing the parts are really not that expensive but you can't carry it around with you.

That's true, and with a computer it's easy to upgrade parts according to your budget and liking.

I agree. It's good to have both, for times when you are at home and other times when you're traveling.

In the past I would choose desktop, but I have changed my mind. Today I like laptop much more. As it is portable and much more convenient to use anywhere. It won't use up much of your room. Besides, it uses less electricity. With the wifi connection, I can use my laptop anywhere at my home.
I love China

Wow, I never really thought of it that way... that laptops use less energy. I always turn my monitor off and my computer running at night, so that must really be a huge chunk on my monthly energy bill.

Well, it depends upon your needs. If you are one who needs a computer at multiple places and mobility then, laptops are the ones for you but if you want real high end computer and want high speed , and performance for purposes like gaming than desktops are the ones for you. If you want both have a look at the alienware laptops!!

it depends on person to person like i prefer desktops simply because i can upgrade my desktop easily but its quiet difficult to upgrade a laptop n also i don't travel much that i will have to need laptop with me. so at home desktop is the best and if you are a traveller then i would recommend you a laptop. but if u buy a laptop for around $1000 with the same amount you can buy a super hot desktop :) which will be up to date and upgraded, that's why i recommend a desktop computer rather than a laptop.

I've been using desktop since I was in high school and it really help me a lot on my projects, thesis and other paper works. But now I'm using Laptop. MY desktop is placed at the living room and a lot of people using it. Now I have my laptop, I was the only one using it because I have password for it and it was placed in my room. Although I can place my laptop anywhere where wifi is detected, I prefer my laptop to be placed inside my room because it was safe in there and no one is trying to use it. But when it comes to speed, the fastest is my laptop. Well, when it comes to speed, it depends on the memory and features of the said gadgets right?!

hi virsuxtreme24,
Well all the pros and cons of the choices you have discusses already so nothing more i can add. It is really up to a person what he likes unless he has to take his computer with him all the time then there is no choice. I got both but i like to lie on bed and then do internet so i prefer laptop. Other wise the spares of laptop are quite costly as compared to desktop so it can be really a matter of choice, i know my last laptop had problem with key board and i asked my vendor how much would it cost to change he said about 5000/- rs ( about 125$ at that time prevaling rates while a good top most key board and mouse combined ( tvs model best in india) would cost less than 20$)

What kind of computer you need really depends on what you need it for and how portable you need it to be. I know some people who have both so that they can travel and still have access or stay home and work equally as well. I only have a lap top since I travel so much. If I had a place to stay I would like to have a desk top again. But then I would have some stuff on one computer and other stuff on the other and I really like all my stuff in one place. So I don't know!

I have used both a desktop and a laptop for about 2 years now and can say that it really depends on what I need. I like the desktop because the screen is bigger and I can be more comfortable when using. However, I like the laptop for it's portability!
If I could only ever have one, I would have to go with a laptop though, just because I can take it with me!
For reference, I am at home and this has been posted using my desktop ;)

Hi virusxtreme24,
Well you can't really compare or choose between a desktop and a laptop.Desktops gives you much better performances,High speeds, good gaming and visual experience.Laptops are usually much more costlier that desktops. The main virtue of a laptop is its portability feature.thats why you need a laptop actually. If you are using your computer at home and don't need to carry it anywhere then a desktop is any day better than a laptop. But if you need to carry your computer to your workplace or suppose you wish to use a computer in your car while travelling then laptop is the best option.
Over all you cannot actually compare between a desktop or laptop.Depending on his own needs and how he wishes to use his computer, one should choose between laptop and a desktop.

I like more the desktops, because i can always change parts to fit my needs. And of course,it's cheap than a laptop, imagine if you have to change your cpu or add ram,or simply change the hdd...or add another one :P Connections and parts are faster on a destktop with the same price...if one day i'll want a laptop,i'll buy an EEEpc or something similar :)

I have both, but don't find one better than the other. I love my desktop because of gaming (espically since I upgraded Geforce 6150 LE to Geforce 9600 GT lmao) and I also love my laptop because I like to watch movies in bed and move out of my room to do my computing needs :P I don't like to feel trapped in my room all the time
I only like my desktop a little bit more because its a lot faster. My laptop is a netbook and it's really slow

it depends as to why you're going to have one. for me, since i'm renting a house and not sure if i'm going to work out of town for long, i prefer laptop. but if my job or my hobbies would work better with desktop, it would be okay to buy a home computer then.

Yes I agree with you, the desktop is used by some one who need a big performance and a better speed, performance, and power, but we can't bring it any where. If a laltop we can bring it any where, but the power, speed, and performance are less than the desktop. I think we should have both of them, we use desktop for a big task such as, 3D, rendering video, gaming etc and use laptop to a road trip, bring to school and etc. Both has each plus and negatif points.
