I don't usually take Cary to cat rescue, just Dearra and Naomi. It's girl bonding day and he gets some time alone with his dad. But today his dad was doing a bunch of work over at his mom's and he didn't want to take him. So I took all three kids. I was a little worried. When Cary gets bored, he sometimes gets a little crazy, and when it's all three kids and I'm outnumbered, sometimes they all start misbehaving. I had a little talk with him about what we were doing and he promised to be good. And he was. He helped get things set up and then when we were done he played with the cats. He was getting a teensy bit antsy when it was time to go, but I was really pleased. I love when they prove me wrong!

Isn't it wonderful! We went to the St. Louis Zoo yesterday. Four kids aged 10, 5, 4 and 6 months. We had to drive four hours to get there...and the day was hot and muggy. We walked and walked and walked...but all four were patient and compliant with requests to wait for 'their' favorite activity or exhibit. Even the baby was patient in waiting for a 'good' time to nurse. I was very proud of their behavior. I also was very proud that they said 'thank you gramma' often. The sting ray exhibit was interactive...we got to actually pet them as the swam by. It was my favorite exhibit after the sea lion show! And we indulged in White Castle afterwards on the trip home! And a good time was had by ALL. Even gramma!

I have not been to the zoo in ages, and I love zoos. It does sound that it was a really good family day.

OK what's White Castle? I love those interactive stingray exhibits. They have them at the LA aquarium and Monterey too! Sounds like fun!

White Castle's are little bitty square hamburgers smothered in saute'd onions with dill pickles. The buns are steamed...and they are delicious. We affectionately call them 'sliders'. You can only get them in certain areas of the country.

You did both of yourselves a favor by giving him a heads up to behave. It was a good day and that will make a great memory for the two of you.

Yeah I'm glad I took him actually. At least I know that if I need to, I can count on him to behave.

Little ones often have rather short attention span, it's great that he enjoyed this visit long enough to no get antsy.
