I've been re-reading Sophie Kinsella the past few days and boy, does she make me laugh! She is one of the few authors whom I can't read on the bus (or on any public place, for that matter) without fearing of suddenly bursting into a loud, uncontrollable laugh. You see, I don't like people staring at me like I'm a space cadet or supposed to be wearing a straight jacket. So Kinsella (and Bob Ong, if I want to go local) stays at home, inside the room where I can LMAO all I want and nobody would care.
How about you? When's the last time you laughed out loud while reading a book and who's the author/what's the book title? And yes, I am soliciting for funny book ideas that I should put in my to-read list

Good discussion! :) I read mostly thrillers/horrors/supsense novels...but the authors always add things that make me laugh, or at least usually.
The book I just finished made me laugh out loud. It's call Burn by Linda Howard. It isn't a comedy book, but I just love the relationship between the two lead characters, the things they did to eachother made me laugh, out loud. I defeniatly recommend this book.
Now, the book that made me laugh THE MOST out loud was probably Marley and Me. I read it a lot during work, and fought so hard not to laugh out loud with my coworker sitting right across a table from me. It would have been embarrassing lol.

Is that where the movie of the same title was based on? Because I LOVED the movie. And I am definitely gonna read that book if it is, because books are ALWAYS, ALWAYS better versions of their movies.
Just checked. Yep. The film was based on it. DEFINITELY in my to-read list now
I liked Howard's Shades of Twilight A LOT, so Burn is also sure to be added on the list. Thanks!!!

YES! Marley and Me is the book that the movie was based on. Not only did the book make me laugh out loud...but oh my gosh it made me cry a river!!! Oh I had to lock myself in my room for the ending, I didn't want anyone to see me crying lol. The movie made me cry too, when I saw it in theaters...and I bought it and I still cry everytime I watch it lol.
While I was reading the book I also cried when the wife (her name escapes me right now) lost the baby the 1st time she got pregnant. I also teared up at that part in the movie, but I think I cried more when I read it.
The movie did take out A LOT...so defeniatly read the book because you'll get a lot more fun Marley incidents :) And one part in the book that made me laugh a lot was taken out of the movie so that bummed me out.
Burn is really good, good premise; wealthy woman is taken "hostage" on a cruise ship full of rich/glamorous people and must do as her captors tell her or her friend will be harmed/killed....(8O esk! lol Very good :P

The last book I've read is the Hitch hikers Guide to the Galaxy (I'm trying to go through my list of books to read before I die...) and Douglas Adams is most certainly funny. If you havent read it yet, make sure to check out the Guide.

Thank you so much! I'm always looking for something good to read, and I've requested a couple of her books at our library.
One author you should consider, if you haven't already, is Chris Grabenstein. He has a series called the Ceepak mysteries, which are not only great who-done-its, but also laugh out loud funny. The writing is crisp, funny and moves along so quickly that the book is done before you are ready to stop reading. The series should be read in order, as there is a continuing background story, and starts with Tilt-A-Whirl. Give it a try and let me know what you think, ok?

I love the Dresden Files for this exact reason (well, it's one of the reasons). The MC Harry Dresden (also the narrator) has a dry sarcastic sense of humor that he uses most of the time but the more trouble he gets into the funnier he gets and I laugh out loud at a lot of his jokes.
Another book that made me really laugh in some places ...actually two books, were the second and third books in Molly Cochran's Arthur Blessing trilogy, the Broken Sword and the Third Magic. Basically, the Knights of the Round Table are brought back to life in the present but they still act like they are in medieval Britain.... really something you have to read to understand but some of the scenes were down right hilarious.

Perhaps the one that make me laugh out the most were various works of R.K. Narayanan.
He is an Indian author reknown for his witty characters and plots set in a mythical town of Malgudi.
