So Dissapointed

I have been so sad since I heard Guiding Light is going off the air... I understand that they have lower ratings but a lot more people work now and so all daytime shows have lower ratings... But this show has been on for 70 years...and I have watched it for 40 some years now...I watched it with my mom as a kid....it is like part of my family is dying... I understand CBS cant afford to keep it but i was really hoping another network would pick it up.. Has anyone heard anything about that lately? When the whole Phillip dying storyline started and he had 3 months to live which was til September which was when the show will end so I figured ok this is how they are going to end it.. But then last week they were all talking about Lizzy hosting thanksgiving and I thought why would they be talking about that unless maybe the show will keep going? And then Phillipo headed to mexico for some miracle cure and it seems like they are preparing for storyline beyond September....but it is probably just wishful thinking on my part... I have really love seeing ALL the old charachters comming back but it is bittersweet because i know they are comming back because it is the end... ;(

I guess it's a bit like losing an old friend. If AMC or Y&R were to get canceled, I'd be disappointed too! PS Hi! :-)

Yeah thats it... Some of the story lines HAVE been pretty crappy the last few years and i dont even pay attention to it sometimes for weeks at a time...lol...but i ALWAYS have it on...i just cant put it on something else...lol but a lot of times i will read a book or use the comp while it is on.....so i can see how the ratings have gone down.... it just like a family member is going away or something....

I am very upset about GL being cancelled also. I have watched it for 40+ years. I started watching it when I was a kid with my mom. What I have read it is still being cancelled and no other network is picking it up.

Im so sorry i didnt get back in here and respond...i need to get better about that... anyway yeah i have been watching it about 35 - 40 years too...its like losing a bunch of family members all at once...im still looking for something to watch durring that rime slot....it is hard to get into other soaps when you havent been following them.... I would have thought maybe the cable chanel soap would have picked it up...all they show is reruns of soaps...would have been nice for them to have their own show...but so far it hasnt happened...

I can't believe it has already been off the air for about 5 months now. It's sad I used to watch it almost every day I would record it and watch the episodes. I am sad that they were not able to find another network to pick it up. It seems weird but the people on the show almost seemed like family having stayed with the show so many years. I think a lot of the down fall lied in the fact that a lot of the fan favorites left such as Ricky Paull Golden and Beth Ehlers, but I still had some hope the show would be picked up because even with out them it was still a great show. At least the show ended on an almost happy note. Although it never really showed what happened between Jeffery and Edmund.

I miss it already!!!!! I never really thought that it would ever happen. It was supposed to be on the air FOREVER! I can't even IMAGINE what I will do on Monday when I finally realize that it won't be there for me to watch anymore. Ever again. This is gonna be a hard one to get over.

Sorry to hear that your favorite show is no longer gonna broadcast in the network TV. I hope that new show will bring your the same happiness as this guiding light show. I wish that you will enjoy other shows, and fall in love with it. Not everything is forever, there is always the end of something in life. So, embrace it, and moving on.
