Hi Mylotters,
Old age is the age that no one can restrict or put aside... Everyone need to go through that...
My grandfather called my aunt yesterday (he is in his eighties)in the phone and with feeble voice he said that he is counting his days. He is suffering from a severe pain in his lap that he couldn't move without a great pain. He tried all the medicines and he is not getting cured. But he has already planned everything in his life and every sons and daughters are having a good life and now he is the only one who suffers. But he is living with his daughter right now. His only way now is to trust God.
How you people manage your old days?. Have you planned for a better living in your oldage. How you feel about your oldage?
Put some thoughts in here... Cheers... Have a nice day always...

old age, or should we label it as the post-retirement age.. where the person is no longer acceptable in the working society, or is already able to relief all the burden carry on his / her shoulder over the years for the children..
As for me, I hope I could at least work till the final day, even I have prepared myself with the savings, and insurance policy. I don't think I will want to live life just with bare hands and not having a daily activities to pass my time..
Also, I have always been praying to GOD, and not let me live life older than 70 and not as young as 60.. Between this gap, it will be best if HE would take me back to his side..

Hi Bingchen,
I really admire your father. Of coarse you too. I don't have plans everyday honestly. But I have plans for the future to buy a good comfortable home with nice kids and wife. But these plans will become true only if I am having plans for today.. Really well said.. Cheers... Have a nice day,,,

Dear jonjee,
Hahaha...I got to know that my father too bought 1/4
acre of land...lying idle there. But the fact was, the
money to buy the land is actually my mum's money. If I
am not mistaken, the proceeds from selling the Jasin's
house! My mum used my father's name because he told her
that it is more feasible to buy the land under his name
because he earn more...and the Inland Revenue will not
query about it ...sigh~

Apart from a little money, I have no plans for very old age. I have an only child and little property so nothing to worry coz I know that worrying will not really get my anywhere! And then you know, people who have lots of money and property, have lots of worries too LOL
I will have a little pension from my work and let’s see if I can save something for myself after I spend majority of my income on my son’s education.

Hi,
You are a nice parent indeed. Spending most of all to your son is really a great thing and I hope your son must be worthy to have such a nice parent. Apart from money we need a sound mind and good health I hope ..right?...As you said worrying produces nothing and it won't give us any pleasure... Cheers.. Have a nice day...

I have lots of plans for my old age at the age of 16! Hehe! I plan not to be a burden for anyone when I become old. I mean, I don't want to depend on my children or my sisters to take care of me then. I'd like to be on a long vacation in Hawaii or somewhere like that! My plan is to save as much money as I can for my old age when I get a job! Happy mylotting!

Hi judy1988,
Still we have time I hope. We need to work on that to have a nice future and I too doing that. Time is really a great thing and it can never be compared to anything even to gold or the precious thing in the world. Instead grabbibg the clock, we can try to run faster than our time.. Nice to have your response here.. Have a nice day... Cheers

To be honest, I haven't thought ahout this topic before, partly because I am young now and think old age is far far away from myself. As being an elder is inevitable just like mentioned above, it is time for me to think about it carefully. Some people like to be quiet, so do I. I believe reading is a good hobby to kill time and improve myself. I have learned a few elders prefer to be active and some of them participate in dance band or become good user of computer. It is really a challenge for them.

Yes Donna. I agree you. But the young age never lasts long....It will go as fast as it could. But keeping up the young thoughts and sound mind as I mentioned earlier is the key to have a great old age... Cheers.. Have a nice day always...

If we will not die young we are definitely going there. We do not have a choice. Honestly, I don't want to grow old. I am expecting now that I don't have special someone , I am imagining myself saving my life with my parents. Taking care of them or if that will not happen, I think I will be living alone and that is sad. Now that I am still young and strong, I am doing everything to be healthy , I avoid myself to eat foods that will give me illness when I get old. Its so sad and difficult if you are old and ill and you are all alone , that is tragic. Although I don't want to get old , I still prepare myself if God permit me to live in this Earth for long.

I cannot say that I have any major plans for old age, I'm only 34 years of age at present! However, I have some pictures of how I would like my life to be if I eventually make it into old age! I can picture myself sitting in a small cottage somewhere in the countryside and enjoying nature and perhaps listening to the sounds of running water like a lake or something, very nice. As I'm a book worm I would love to have one room totally devoted to books! A library, my own library, that would be very nice! It is unfortunate about your grandfather, the fact that he is suffering the way he is! I think this is something everyone dreads! I would like to think that I will remain fit and healthy come old age, but you just never know what is around the corner. I guess what we do now whilst still young determines what kind of life we will have once we reach our closing days! Andrew

Some days I think I am already there! (LOL) I can only hope that if I am fortunate enough to live to a ripe old age that I will be in decent enough health not to have to rely on others. I try to take care of my health as well as I can now and I hope that it will impact my older years, at the end of the day, that is all that you can do.
Financially I will probably suffer because we are struggling to put anything aside for our twilight years right now.

Hi,
I am already a senior citizen..too late to plan anything!
I have claimed out my Employee Provident Fund when I was 55,
but I had invested all in 'land banking'...I really prayed
hard that this investment will bear good return to me in
5 years time...
I am currently still working, hopefully my boss will extend
my service. I still have a bif responsibility to take care.
My son is till young, just entering secondary school.
My advise is, Do Plan for your retirement...due to inflation,
our money has shrink a lot and cost of living and cost of
education has escalate drastically.

well, I have some insurance policies and thats it...I dont have anything else. Whatever we earn is just enough for the monthly expenses and loans so where is the time to plan for the oldage..may be our assets like house, jewellery are the only things for our old age now...
Nowadays the prices of every commodity has soared up that making the both ends meet is becoming difficult...living a decent life is itself becoming difficult then where will I plan for the old age when my present is so uncertain.

Hi radx682,
It's better not to loose hope. During the coarse of plan we learn something and we experience somthing which will have a better plan for a better tomorrow. I don't think only money and things makes us everything we need. But a good health and sound mind and a merry heart will make our old age a better one. Hope you agree this?.... Cheers... Have a nice day,,

Old age is a process where everyone has to go through that stage at one point of time. However, old age is not about beeing weak, having short of money, having pains in the body etc. That is just half truth. Also, people believe that in their old age, they will have to depend upon their sons and daughter, without them there is no hope. All such above mentioned things will only create fear in people's mind.
It is true that we have to save some money in the form of pension amount or somesort of saving interest, so that we can use it during our retired life. After all, once we reach that stage, we have to enjoy our life not by trying to work hard in order to make ends meet. Retired life is a life to enjoy by having good health and doing something that you would always love to do.

hi phillip; ready or not here I come I am notold, I am a senior
citizen which I prefer to old lady, thats a disgusting term used by the young to signify a decrepit old crone drooling on herself, her voice just a whisper waiting to die,dim witted and senile yuck.I am 82, I am not senile,I do not drool, I am not decrepit,I am at least as intelligent as you, and I hate b eing called old, and worst of all, old lady.I do have arthitis but so do many people in their forties.I had never really planned for old age, but here I am and I intend to stay here as long as I possibly can. I am happy, I am cleaR of mind, and physically well which not all younger people can say.I feel great about my age, do you?"

Dear Philip,
Thanks for this topic, it is very practical and make us think
about the Question that some of us will just 'do not want to
think about it!'...or as one of the popular song "Que Sera , Sera'
strumming away with : 'Whatever Will be, will be'
For myself, I came from a very poor family living in a secluded
estate. My father was working then but all his salary went to one
special hobby of his ~ gambling away on the pay day ~
So, left only my mum's pay as a rubber tapper - she has to pay
for her 8 children's education, household sundries and expenses,
She knows the value of money, she lives on her next month's pay.
Rubber tappers are daily paid..so she will buy the groceries from
the friendly neighbourhood sundry shop on credit - recorded in the
popular 555 notebook.
She knew how tough life is if we do not plan, so from young I was
taught by her to save...save...and save. But there is one ARCH enemy
who will eat up the value of money ~ the INFLATIONS! So, how can we plan
by rely on savings alone...other alternative plans have to be considered;
1) Purchase a long term life insurance plan that will pay bonus and
dividend. In case the insured is no longer in the world, the next of
kin will be taken care off. Or the insured can withdraw / surrender
the policy to get the cashvalue..to take care of his old age expenses.
2) Buying an endownment plan that at certain years, the whole initial
capital plus bonus will be return back to the insured. This is a better
plan for retirement. I sometimes call this as savings for the retirement.
3) Save in Goverment Bonds with higher dividends and capital guaranteed.
4) Purchase houses for rental, the rental can help to pay the monthly
instalment. Once the house is fully paid up..the rental income can be
used for expenses during old age. Moreover, house value can appreciate.
If you are weel to do, can invest in shop lots, office lots or industrial
buildings....it is money taht attracts money :)
5) Employeed Provident Fund...those who works in the private companies,
it is the Government Regulations taht the employee and employer must
contribute to this fund for retirement benefits to the employees.
But sad to say, many retiree has spent off most of the fund within
5 years after retired. So, who gonna take care of them after that?
Many has used the retirement money for children to buy car, buy house
or for children marriage..sigh
All the best, better plan now..no one else will plan for you :)
