Most Chinese audience turn to TV plays just to relax themselves after work. As a result, the majority of TV plays are aimed at entertainment and a great many of them are rather boring and for the bored and boring people. Years ago, those TV plays themed with the stories in the Forbidden City. Recently as the 60-year anniversary of the foundation of People's Republic of China, more often do the TV plays concerning the history of the World War II and revolution appear on the TV screen. As to the former kind, I just feel ashamed and sorry that Chinese are still absorbed in pure entertainment instead of aspiring after profound knowledge. Even most teenagers are lost in the meaningless and commonly lack knowledge in literature, music, history and philosophy. It seems that expectations should not be fixed on the next generation, even the next next generation...
What is your opinion? What kind of TV play is the most popular in your motherland?
Abrat.

back home we love shows with singing and dancing, also sometimes you see the occasional show that's been imported from mexico or Venezuela. (surprisingly we don't usually import US shows)

I'd have to say police stories are the most popular in Australia, then just dramas surrounding small communities, and towns. We don't seem to go for historical television much in Australia. But there have been some good ones, but they're few and far between.
