Yesterday we did a 9 hour drive to Pennsylvania and within the first hour we came upon a horrific traffic accident. It must have only happened about 15 minutes before. The car looked like it came from the other side of the road and it rolled and landed on its roof in our lane. there was only one car involved. They were busy cutting the driver out. There was a body on the pavement next to our lane covered completely by a white sheet. You knew it was a body because they tucked it in around so the outline was quite clear. I started to cry and shake. How senseless? People drive way too fast - me included! I started to keep it at the speed limit. Others were flying by 20 mph over the limit. Have you ever come across such an accident while you were driving?

The danger is that when people start to slow down to 'rubberneck' as it were it at the accident, as a lot of people in truth are inquisitive and it's our curious nature as humans to 'look' but that in itself causes a hazard to other drivers, if you suddenly slow down to look and then it causes the car behind to suddenly brake causing a domino affect. I have seen that happen and one accident can actually cause more through people staring at the original accident. You see it so many times, and the amount of accidents on the road, I get upset when children are involved. Some people shouldn't be behind the wheel of a car in the first place, cars are killing machines and some people just don't realize it and putting a fast car in the wrong hands, recipe for disaster.

Texting or using your mobile/cellphone whilst driving is illegal in the UK now, but does that stop them? Does it hell as like, the penalties are not stiff enough, ergo no proper deterrant, ergo people just stick their two fingers up at the law and carrying on texting and using phones when driving, ergo more accidents and fatalities.

You are so right. I have seen rubbernecking on the opposite side of the road where they have no accident to slow them down. It does often cause other accidents.
I think texting is the next big thing now - worse than driving drunk since you take your eyes off the road to text.

i used to be a truck driver and seen so many accidents, its sad because people do drive to fast and they dont pay attention what they are doing.
i think one of the worst one i saw was this bmi they said he was 118 mph hitted two cars in back flip over in mid air, came down and hitted this other car on top of the back window and that car went flying out in the intersection and then hit the car that just passed us up once the light turned green. but for some reason i decided to pause a second but if i went as soon the light turned green the last car would have hiited us.

In my country the accident's rate are very high and mostly will increase during celebration's holiday. When people head to their hometown from the city. The traffics are packed with many cars, lorry, and bikers. I have almost got accident about 2 to 3 times in my life so far and its really makes me scared when driving sometimes. Thanks

It should be an eye opener for you and for all of us. Let us follow the safety rules first. It is always better to be safe than be sorry afterwards. Life is very short and uncertain, don't fool around with it. You are answerable to so many of your loved ones.

We were coming back from an amusement park tonight on the Pennsyvania Turnpike. It is only 2 lanes and most of it has no lights at night. Many parts are under construction at night. In these parts they post a 40 mph sign. This van wizzed by me and he was clocked at 69! I know it because they had one of those radar machines set up. and...no cop pulls him over! If it were me I would have gotten a huge ticket. People need to slow down and take it easy.
