Cash for clunckers may be a great moved for you. I work at a car dealer in Marlow Heights Maryland. I first heard about cash for clunckers and thought that it would not help any one and it would take money away from the non profit organization whom could use the car donations. Now that the program has been given more money and i see all the people it is helping i am happy and shocked.
So from what i can tell if you have a car that get 18 miles to a gallon, has been insured for at least a year. You are able to get a new car and use your old car as a trade in... allowing you to get up to 4500.00 towards your new purchase of a green minded car. Green minded i mean better for the earth... getting more gas per gallon. So this plan "cash for clunkers" is helping the metal industry, its helping the car industry, and it helping people to not spend less money at the gas pump.
I am shock this bill really is helping... what are your thoughts

I think that right now it is nice, but I cannot help but wonder what is going to happen in 3 or 4 years when only part of the 5 year payments have been made and we have to have another stimulus package to help all of the people who cannot keep making their payments.
I also am sad to see the waste, I know that most of the items on these cars could be recycled but I have a clunker that if I had 4 grand I could work on it and it would get the same fuel milage as a new truck.
Personaly I would get rid of my 3 year old car that gets 40 MPG before I got rid of my 88 Chevy 1 ton that doesn't even get half that. In 2 years when my car is paid off we will spend the money and it will get great fuel milage and we will not have another 5 years of payments but apractically new truck (that rides better and is definatly more comfortable than the new ones.)

Now you have made a vaild point that i really had not thought about. the main reason why i will not get ride of my chevy track is because with a little work Broono my little latin lover will be good as knew. I love that truck.
The cost to buy a car now is out of this world. thank you for your input.

well, i don't get 18 miles that's too much, i don't get this much mileage on highway. i get about 13-14 in the city and about 16-17 on highway. that's it and with a/c it decreases a bit more. it was a problem when i was running my car on petrol :) but now i am running my car on compressed natural gas :) that really helped me a lot.
