I just recently started using ebay. So far I have only made three transactions (I bought two books and I have sold one) but I am still slightly skeptical about buying more expensive items on the internet. It is so impersonal and it seems an easy way to get cheated. What do you all think? Do you do transactions online like on ebay and craigslist? How often do you so in comparison to shopping at the store.

Over the last few years i have bought many things on e-bay and have never had a problem with anything, I have never sold anything on it
Craigslist is another story though, i have sold many items on Craigslist, I like it better because their is no fees, or shipping, everything that i have sold the buyer has come to the house, and has payed with cash, so i have no worries their.

Ya I like the cash dealings that Craigslist offers. Then I can meet the person in real life and deal like that which is appealing to me about craigslist.

Thanks again. Now I know more on Craigslist. I am from Malaysia, so I don't think this website is available at my country. Meeting the person in real and deal with them is the good choice! Stay happy and enjoy mylotting!

Dlr, I love to shop at Ebay too. In fact, I am a seller in Ebay as well! . I sell off some of my kids out grown clothing. At the same time, I buy some second hand clothing from other seller at Ebay. I never know Craigslist before. It sounds interesting. So this is a website like Ebay. It is good to buy something and cash on delivering is a good option!

hi there, I like to shop at Ebay! I like those bid items. Sometimes I may get to bid and win the item in cheaper price compare to buying it at the store. If you pay your merchant via Pay Pal, you have the coverage of buyer protection. Says like you don't receive what you have buy, you can have a dispute over Pay Pal and get to claim your money back. I am lucky so far I have meet honest sellers. Do check on the seller feed backs before you buy from Ebay!

the real damage for ebay ,craiglist and sites like that is that among many honest sellers there are always some people trying to cheat and so in many cases your shopping should be ok and you will receive items as you spoke with the seller before your buy but in som cases you are chated to other not honest one!!i think if i must buy a pc ..so i won' trust in sites like that..in reality as shopping online i like more see some authorized online store from brands where you can find all items and even prices can be ebtter if compared to the shop too!!May be in this way it cna be more secure..but i knwo that in this sites there are the majority of sellers that are honest!!

Hello,
Ebay is good for the most part, but I have learned that some of the bad apples are thrown in and you do get ripped off and all . Their are trusted sellers that have been on for a long time. Always look at the rating and see if they have been selling for a bit , or if its a lets make some money and than leave. Thing is with ebay is you do get a deal, but sometimes shipping is way too much , or people will jack the bid up and you dont get a deal . If you dont save at least 5 on a lower bid item or 50 on a bigger one it isnt worth it.But for the most part I like ebay!

Ya I don't like how their is a limit on the shipping price even if shipping that item will cost more.

I have been using ebay for quite a while now and I can honestly say it's a great place to shop online! I have bought various items and I think I have sold just one item! I have this seller's account and it seems that I'm not doing much in that regard, I would love to sell lots of other things but I haven't made the effort to do this. I suppose there is always going to be a risk as with anything! Whenever I want to buy something from ebay I always check a seller out thouroughly, it's important to do this. I won't generally buy from a seller unless he has a rating above 95 per cent. That's another thing I like about ebay, the fact that you can rate sellers when you have purchased an item from them and vice versa. I rarely shop down the high street nowadays, I much prefer to do all my shopping online. Andrew

Shopping in a store is not so easy for me - I have 2 small children that can make browsing and shopping less than fun...so I have been an online shopper for quite some time. I especially love shopping for bargains, so I am often scouting out ebay and craigslist. I have had many great purchases on ebay, only one that can remember was bad - it was a fake name brand handbag that I paid alot for only to find that it was a fake. And craigslist I have had mainly good experiences with as well - I got a fabulous elliptical machine for a very reasonable price. I guess I just try to use my common sense, and the fact is that if something sounds too good to be true - it usually is :)

Unfortunately, you can get cheated on eBay and Craig's List relatively easily if someone is dishonest. I remember reading a story a long time ago where someone bought a bunch of Beanie Babies when they were extremely popular on eBay. Paid for it and everything but the seller never shipped them. They were arrested and charged though.
But for me, I've never had any bad luck using eBay. I've been a member on the site since 2004 but I have only bought a very few things. All of them arrived as said and I was happy with the stuff.
I have done stuff using eBay in the past and I plan on doing that in the future. In comparison to physuical stores though, I don't use eBay that much.

There will always be bad people wherever you shop. Many scams. For every good person, there is probably a bad person. I cannot say I have never been scammed on ebay, but most of the time I have not.
I suppose you could judge people based on their star rating, but them where does that put a person like you when just starting out. Thats the problem. But even people with good ratings can scam. I got scammed out of a computer on Ebay. 250$. Insurance only covered about a 100 of it. It sucked. The next person, however, shipped and I received it.
There is no real way to tell over the internet whether it is going to be a scam. Text can lie. The real issue is if you trust somebody over the internet enough without actually knowing them. It's not like going to a garage or yard sale. It's a gamble sometimes
It all comes down to 'How badly do I need this?'
I preferably would check around second hand shops(Essentially the same as Ebay most of the time) and such first, see if they have what you need. Some churches and libraries do sales, for books and donated items. Garage sales are sometimes a good thing. There are sales everywhere. Granted, sales don't have a search bar, but at least you can fully see what you are purchasing. Everything has a downside.

I have only done business sthrough ebay once and it seemed to be an ok situation, I of course made my purchase using funds through paypal which allows me to pay for it without the risk of giving out my personal account information. I have done several transactions through Craigslist and each one has gone through just fine, of course all of those sales/purchases have ended up being cash. I think if you use a service such as paypal you will feel much more comfortable in making any online transactions. Just my opinion though. Have a great day.

I use eBay all the time for everything! As long as you pay through paypal you have a lot of protection. Always make sure you check people's feed back before you buy from them just to be safe!
