Do you consider reading a hobby or a method of learning?

I've been into reading since I learned it. I read a lot of articles, stories, tips, etc.
It seemed like a hobby, a passion, and a way of learning for me.
But I still find people who consider it a hobby alone. Just to waste away their time. Not really to seek learning from it. They don't really choose the kinds they are reading.
I also find people who consider it a method of learning. Concentrating only to references that pertains to certain topics.
Are you into reading? How do you find it?

I defeniatly consider my reading a hobby--I don't read any educational, factual books...I stick strictly to fiction. Good, scary thrillers/mystery/horror novels. The fact that I enjoy reading immensly just proves more to me that it is a hobby. If I didn't want to do it...I wouldn't...but I love it :)

For me, reading is the best way of removing tension. Yes, i am always tension free when reading any kind of book. It's my hobby. But i think it is also a best way of learning cause we cannot learn anything without readning, may be reading from net or books.

To some degree,I am an impatient person,so in most cases , I don't have enough patient to read a book. But as book is very important for me , so I have to read it for learning ,.As a result , the most book I read is my text book .So , I am afraid that I just treat book as a method of learning .

i consider reading a method of learning. i read a lot when i am in front of the pc. general information, science and technology and almost everything that i know i will learn something with. my wife has tons of pocket books and i know she reads because that one of her hobbies. so we read for a different reason but at the end of the day we both chip in some of the things we both read mine from the net and her from her book.

I consider reading both a hobby and a means of learning. I read for pleasure and to learn all of the time. I am not afraid to pick up an educational book or look up information in an encyclopedia or on the web. I read just for pleasure mosy nights before I go to bed though. I do most of my reading for learning during the daytime. I seem to retian more at that time of the day.

reading is always a good method or habit to learning something.this rule is unchangeable forever.but the question is you must make a test to prove what the book shows
actually i heard about there's someone said that book is not used to read,it should be used to lookup.if someone read books without any purpose,it's hard to say he will learn something from it,reading is an interactive process
there's a book called "how to read a book",i make a suggestion and introduction to everyone

To me, reading is both a hobby and a way of learning. I read many different types of books. There are books that were written solely to entertain, but there are also others that could entertain and educate you at the same time. I like learning, so for me, educational books are also entertaining. I usually choose books about fantasy and philosophy, two of my favorite book genres.

I got addicted to reading when I was in grade school and my English teacher started giving us book reports. That is when I discovered I had this passion for books of all kinds. From the classics like Don Quixote and Les Miserables to the modern novels released. I never get tired of it. It is a good way of de-stressing and learning as well. If one loves to read - the knowledge that comes with the book follows naturally. Plus you get to have a wide variety of words stuck in your brain.

I have been reading since I was very young. For me it's a hobby as well as a way of learning new words, ideas and concepts. I don't know about you, but when I read I become part of the story. I can actually visualise the characters and what they are doing. I become so absorbed, that I am not aware of what is going on around me. When learning new words, ideas and concepts, I take these and apply them to my everyday life. I have gained alot from reading.

I consider it both. One of my hobbies is to read novels, but even just from reading romantic and mystery novels, I expand my vocabulary. So it can be both esp if you are the type of person who enjoys reading news and stuff about the world and educational literature.

To me reading is a hobby, and at the same time it is a way to learn something. I love reading and I always enjoy a good book, and I would say that I have learned a lot from the books that I have read. I like read non-fiction for instanse books about psychology, psychiatry, nursing, art or history, I have learned a lot from those books, but I also feel that I have learned something frm the other books that I have read (novel and short stories).
Reading is a nice way to widen my vocabulary, and I am writer myself so I enjoy to read books by others, especially authors who write in a funny or ironic way. Sometimes great stories inspire me and help me find inspiration for my own stories. My mothertongue is Danish, but I also like to read books in English or German. That way I can enjoy a good story and learn something at the same time.

Hi, I consider reading also more as a hobby then a method of learning, although I also like to read books about non-fiction subject just to know a little bit more about that subject.
So I suppose sometimes I do read in some way of learning, anyway it is a fun way to learn about stuff.

I consider them both. It is a hobby but as you go on reading, you are also learning. It give us something to do that we really enjoy and we are also rewarded with knowledge.
