is it wrong to have ego?

I don't think there is nothing wrong with having self esteem however I do have a problem with someone who thinks more of them selves than anyone else. I want my children to feel good about themselves but not at the expence of someone else. If you have to put someone else down to feel good about your self you do not have an ego you have a self esteem problem.
