How Many Pills do You take Daily?

It occurred to me this morning as I was laying out my medications to take that I am swallowing a huge number of pills. In the mornings I take 2 for hypertension, one fish oil and glucosamine, one baby aspirin, one cholesterol, one diuretic plus vitamins.
In the evenings I take hypertension tablets again (in case you do not know it, most heart attacks and strokes are in the early hours of the morning so the hypertension meds should be evenly divided for 24 hour protection. Then more for cholesterol, plus two other medications for my heart problem. What a load to take!
I"ll have to get one of those pill boxes that sorts out meds for the mornings and evenings for a week.
What medications do you take?

No I do not take any medication or a pill regularly. Only when I am down with fever or in case of some illness I take some pill. But even I do not take those seriously. If the doctor advises me to take 3 per day it is rare that I take even 2. I am little forgetful when it comes to manage my medication.

Yes I will try to take care of this thing now. Yes you are right if we start a dose it is not good to leave it midway. It spoils the immune system. Thanks for the advise.

I don't take that many pills really. My problem is remembering to take them or if I have taken them. I do use one of those daily pill pill boxes. If I don't remember if I took them it helps. I take 2 for my arthritis and one for cholesterol and flax seed oil. and a couple of Tylenol at night for pain. I also take calcium daily. I have a ox that has 7 days with places for 4 times a day. Since I only take my meds twice a day I put 2 weeks worth in.

This is what I need. There must be a pharmacy in NY near the hotel and is is in a busy area. I am putting the box on my list. Flax seed oil is good to take. They are so expensive to buy out here. Hope it is cheaper in the States. Thank God that I don't have arthritis - I do not do pain well at all.

It is very important to take the fish oil ones as it has been proven to help protect your heart. So please dig them out wherrever they are and begin to take them. Also a low dosage or baby aspirin can reduce your risk of heart attack or strokes by nearly 50% - and that is a lot. I've taken a baby aspirin for about 20 years. Ask your docor about taking it. It is a great blood thinner

Taking too many pills is not good for you. They have side effects. Have you tried some traditinal medicine instead? Only take the necessary medicines such as for hypertension and heart ailments. There are other ways to reduce cholestrol levels. Sad to hear you are on so many medicines. Take care.

As we get older (and I appreciate that I have lived to get older and to give thanks for this ) we develop complaints that modern medicine can keep us living longer and living in better health. Sometimes we have no choice. I was well and did not have any problems until I reached 50. Keep healthy my friend and thank you for responding

That's very true Binthu, natural medicines are effectively slower and takes many doses but side effects are much less. Modern medicines too has it's place today. It's just that sometimes we must be very careful in what we are taking. Some people has more severe side effects than others. This applies to traditional medicines too. Not everyone can tolerate traditonal medicines as well. We still need modern medicine.

I am sorry because you have to take many different medications.
Luckily, I do not have to take any pills every day.
I try to stay healthy, and do exercise.
That helps me have good shape and stay away from diseases.

Wow, to me you take lots of pills everyday. But if they are prescribed medication, guess you just have to follow it.
I normally take one fish-oil (in case I become more stupid than I am now in the future :P), one gloucosamine, one 3-in-1 tablet of calcium, magnesium, and zink, few spirulina tablets and grapeseeds. If I get a busy day, I will start off with one vitamin B. Occasionally I need pireton to ease my allergy. Apart from these, I don't take any medication. I consider myself a very lucky person.

I used to suffer a lot of ear infections. It was a nurse that discovered what was wrong. The wax in my ears did not drain out naturally and if I use waxsol or something like that a few times a week I do not get an infection. The wax inn the ear gets nice and moist and breeds bacteria. The pain was horrible. why don't you try this for a say 3 nights a week in a row and see if the wax will come out?

Thanks for the advice, they've been looking in my ears and wax buildup isn't the problem. They think it's something with my ear canal...my dad is trying to find me an ENT and see what he says. It's to the point where I've had so many ear infections that I don't feel the pain until my ear is completely blocked.

I was hoping that this would solve your problem as I suffered for 20 years until it was found out what was wrong. The pain is awful, I so remembered how I suffered. I do hope that you can gt it sorted out soon so that you do not suffer - you could lose some hearing and this has happened to me also. Not much - but some in one ear. many blessings

Hi Hatley, yes we seem to take the same number of pills but I think there is one other person who may be taking the most each day. Are you in a nursing home? You spoke of a nurse this is why I am wondering but I do not mean to be intrusive. The good news is that you do not have to count them out each day and remember to take them. I hope that you have a good evening and I am so glad that you responded to my post.

Hm, glucosamine/chondroitin/msm, multi-vitamins, calcium, and a whole bunch of homeopathic and natural stuff for arthritis, fibromyalgia and other conditions. The only prescription I have is for Skelaxin, which is a muscle relaxant!

The worst was a disk injury that I had, but that is so much better. The fibro and the arthritis don't bother me that much. I generally don't even take pain meds unless I do something to piss it off (like sit too much or lift things or whatever).

Gosh! almost as many as I do. I am so sorry about the fibromyalgia and I do hope that you do not have too much pain. I don't do pain well and would be addicted to happy pills if I had pain. I know this to be true. I am not joking as we do have an addictive gene in our family. I use to take a lot of natural products but they have got so pricey and what with the cost of the meds......

To dawnald: have you tried magnesium for fibromyalgia? A friend of mine used to suffer from it (though I don't know why it stopped troubling him now), and he found out taking a large dose of magnesium help to ease the syndrome. Even now he still take it regularly.

Just the one but that is bad enough!
I take a pill for my kidney condition just one a day but it will be for ever for the rest of my life in the hope it will, while not preventing the need, at least stop me requiring a kidney transplant for a good many years yet.
Although when my back is bad i take several pain pills a day (tramadol) because it is the only way I can get out of bed, sad to say im only 25 aswell but apart from that im actually really healthy believe it or not lol

Hey Cyn,
Like you I take a lot of pills too. In the morning I take 10 different prescription pills. At night I also take 10 pills, some duplicates of the morning. Without those weekly pill trackers, I'd never get it straight. I hate it when I go to take my night pills and realize I forgot my morning pills. It's hell getting old but if a pill will keep me going, so be it.

Each day I have to take 4 pain killers 4 times a day, another painkiller/anti-inflammatory twice a day and if I've had a few days of troublesome, sleepless nights I have to take sleeping tablets as well. Plus I know that on my next visit to the doctor they want to put me on a further pain killer, but don't know the dosage of that one yet. To say I feel quite spaced out a lot of the time is an understatement, but then by the sounds of things a lot of us our in the same boat.

Many thanks for your well wishes and like wise I hope your medical issues remain under control and hopefully improve.
My need for pain killers stems from a degenrative back condition which is crippling which sort of explains why the need for so many pain killers. the strange thing is, and I'm sure you are the same, taking all the tablets comes as second nature after a while and it's not untill you sit down and work out how many you actually take does it sort of shock you.

Can yo believe that I have responded twice to your response and both times managed to send my response to computer heaven? I am sorry that you are suffering this way and do hope that your condition can be arrested or contained. Pain is horrible. Have you tried other things like acupuncture for pain? Probably you have tried everything. I looked at your profile and see that you live in the U.K. I was from there until I married a Jamaican and came to live here here 40 years ago. But I try to go back every few years or so.
I do hope that you are receiving good treatment and wish you everything that is good. Many blessings

I don't take any prescription meds, but I do take vitamins twice a day. With most vitamins, if you only take them in the morning, you aren't getting any benefit from them the rest of the day, so you should take most vitamins twice a day.
I take multivitamin/mineral supplements, calcium, a cell protector, digestive tract balancer, cholesterol prevention and heart attack/stroke prevention. The company packages them in AM and PM packets for me so I don't need one of the pill dispenser things. We love them! My husband has actually gotten rid of his prescription cholesterol and high blood pressure medications because of these supplements so he's taking LESS pills now :)

I only take one pill a day. I take a store brand omeprezole for my heart burn. If I don't take this pill, wow can I feel it. Of course, it takes a couple of days to wear off, and then a couple of more days to go back into effect. So it is a dreaded thing if I miss it...I am dreading the heartburn.
I think it would be a good idea for you to get one of those pill boxes that separates all of the pills by days of the week and by morning and afternoon. I know people who have these, and it saves a little time by sorting them all at once for a whole week.

Well I take a bunch of pills everyday, if I listed them all, it would take a whole page..haha. I take 7 in the morning, 5 in the afternoon, 3 in the evening, and 7 or 8 at bedtime. Some of them are vitamins, 3 are blood pressure medicines, but I take them for different things, like for fluid retention, and hypertension, 1 or two are for my heart, I take coumadin for my heart, and potassium. I use a pill box that sorts them out for me everyday at different times of the day, if I didn't have that, I'd have trouble keeping up, but I hardly ever miss any. I get tired of taking them too, but I figure they are what's keeping me going everyday.

Hi cynthiann! I take one premarin tablet once a day for my hormones, one calcium tablet, one vitamin C tablet (250mgs.), and one vitamin B1 tablet (100mgs.). These are all taken once a day when I first wake up. I also take a Fosamax tablet once a week for osteoporosis (I don't have this but I'm at risk for it). I also take two Tylenol P.M. at bedtime to help me sleep. Kathy.

I once saw the pill box out here for sale and it was the equivalent of US25 so I will wait until I reach NY next week to buy one. I must can get one at a cheaper price. We will have time for shopping before going on the cruise so I must find a pharmacy. I think that I should get something to sleep too as I do not sleep well if not in my own bed!

I have a pill box with daily reminders on it, too. If I didn't use it, I wouldn't be able to remember whether I took my medicines or not. I can tell the difference in the way I feel emotionally when I don't take my Premarin for a day or two. I don't use the pill box for my Fosamax or the Tylenol P.M.. Somehow, I just always remember those. Kathy.

Are you going to NYC? If you are, I hope you have a good time. I have been there twice. I went when I was 5 and then again when I was 16. I don't remember very much about the first time I went but I do remember standing on top of the Empire State Building. All of the cars looked like toys from up there! I was told that we rode a boat around the statue of liberty but I don't remember anything about it. We didn't got up in it, though. That was in 1957 and I don't think people went up in it in the '50s. When we went when I was 16, we went up on top of the Empire State Building again. That is an awesome experience! We also saw Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick's Cathedral, and we rode down Broadway and saw Macy's Department Store. That night, we went to church at Manhattan Church Of Christ. After that, we went to Greenwich Village and Chinatown. We had a great time! My sister and her husband were living in Stamford, Connecticut at the time, which is not far from NYC. We went to see them and we spent one day in NYC one day. Kathy.
