For me it's books. First of all you can use your own imagination if you haven't watched the movie. After I read the book I watch sometimes the movies just to see how they were choosing the characters and the environment. But most of the time I'm disappointed. Ijust know a few movies were I can say the book and the movie are almost equal interesting.

I like the movie as it was well picturised than the novel.Especially the characters were good in movie as imagining so many characters in a novel is very confusing often.

I tried reading the book, thought it is in English, I still had a difficulty understanding it. I preferred watching the movie again.

I also didn't like the movies as much as I enjoyed the books. When Iread the books I was in 8th grade.I imagined what all the landscapes and all the characters looked like.I saw the movies when I was in my late 40's and of course nothing in my imagination matched what I saw in the movies. With imagination,it's difficult to match with what

the book is great but in fareness. even though it is one of those movies based on a very very long story or based on book. the movie still gives as much as 95% of the story. thats my idea. unlike harry potter which is also book based movie, HP when it comes to the movie it does not give about 50% of the whole story

Agree. The books are brilliant but too difficult. Though my fantasy class teacher strongly recommended the books rather than the movie, I still have no courage or patience to read through the whole trilogy.^_^

I'm going to have to disagree with you on whether the books or the movies are easier to understand. The book is packed with hours and hours of description rich in detail of the Lord of the Ring universe: from the many regions found on Middle Earth to what the characters are thinking and feeling. The movies skips lots of detail, and you never know what the characters are thinking, no matter how good the actors are. Although the movies bring the most important parts of the book to life visually. However, there are many who like me prefer to form the world of Middle Earth within their minds using the authors description. The movies are brilliant, but your own imagination is too powerful to compare with... However, ultimately I would have to agree LOL because I absolutely hated the songs and poems in the books.

I would always pick a book rather than a movie. I love and enjoy reading as I myself create a virtual scenario of what is going on with whom...also the faces of the characters in book are blurred because I havent seen them. Books are most of the time unpredictable...but that is not the case with movies. So far I have seen more than a thousand movies and sometime into the movie and I can figure out waht is going to happen. Although it does happen most of the time, there is an exception for above the mark films which are based on actual incidents or based on some one's life. There is another advantage about reading a book which is it has the capability to entertain you for more than 2-3hours. Movies are too short an entertainment...

I don't know .You know ,you can watch a movie in one and half an hours .If you want to read a book ,it would cost you at least a few days.As for as I am concerned,I'd like to watch the movie first ,then I would read the book.lol.I think the book is best for me .

I actually like the book better, it gives a better insight into the story and the plot which makes it more interesting to read for me. The movie just simplifies things too much, which I don't like.
