Although GPS devices are gaining in popularity, I know that there are still many people without them. What I didn't realize is that people without them don't always print out directions from MapQuest, YahooMaps, or something else like that. While we were driving to Florida last week, we actually saw a man driving on the highway, reading the map in the Atlas book! WHILE he was driving! On the highway! I was totally stunned and also thankful that he didn't hit anything while he was looking at the map.
What's your preferred way to get from one place to the other? We just LOVE our Garmin!

My family and me always use printed atlas. It's just old habit, we can touch it and usually the size is bigger and we can make some note on it or mark some place with marker to make us find it easily. GPS not really popular in my country and I still feel more familiar with printed atlas. But of course I won't do it while driving on the highway! I will stop and read the map, not read it while driving. That's amazing that man not hit anything while he was looking at the map

OH, I can remember pulling off the road to read the map and find out where I was going or should have gone! If someone else is in the car with you, they can read it for you. But by yourself, it's kinda dangerous...

I used to travel alone a lot and am glad that now I have my husband to go with me!

Of course, except if you stop your car and read it by yourself. Sometimes I think have a partner or friends when traveling is important for this purpose..

I do not use a printed Atlas, I have a Garmin Nuvi GPS that I bought around 6 months ago. It works really great and has many features, I can listen to music on it, with a calculator, and link it to my cell phone. It includes maps for both Europe and North America.

They are great! And you just update new changes to the maps by connecting it to your computer. We absolutely love ours!

I use mapquest to print maps for my mother when we have to drive somewhere foreign. Now, my printer is broken but i still use mapquest to check out the map and write down the directions.

When I get a printout, I always compare it against the atlas or AtoZ Streetmap & then usually work out my own route as a combination of the two. But, obviously, I dont do it on the move! If I'm unsure, I stop at the roadside and look up a junction or street name on my maps.

That's the safe way to do it... Not sure how this guy made it in one piece.

The printed Atlas does have advantages to it - if you keep getting new ones that are updated... With all the new roads around here, they're obsolete in no time!
