For those who are not Filipinos... Darna is a Filipino Comic hero created by Filipino comics legend Mars Ravelo... She is like Wonderwoman but she can fly and her alter ego is Narda a simply girl who turns into a super hero upon swallowing a magical stone and shouting DARNA... I must admit i was caught up with all the hype and media frenzy so after a week... i decided to watch last night's episode... and i must admit i was a little impressed with the acting of the main characters, the story, and even the Darna costume... but not so much at the visual effects... they could do a lot better than that... but that particular episode made me want to watch again tonight... and that is very rare because i really don't like Filipino fanatasy series (fantaserye for short)... Made me remember the very painful night i watch an episode of Angel Locsin's Darna... i hated myself for doing that... and never made myself even turn to that channel on that particular time ever again... To make the long story short... Marian Rivera is currently my favorite Darna... who is yours?... Darna's from that past are also included... but i really cannot compare them because it's been ages since i last saw the other versions...

Well, Valentina is portrayed as a classy monster... and she is someone we really love to hate... i will try to watch Darna again... and see if the successive episodes will be able to hold my interest... Thanks for the response...

Heya! I really dont have favorites but the one that I grew up 'knowing' to be Darna is Anjanette Abayari. She was most definitely sexy and very beautiful. Kinda like a morena version of Marian. They both have the curves and the beauty. However, personally, I think Angel Locsin is more sexier in the Darna costume rather than Marian. Angel just has more curves at that time. But, with the fight scenes, the acting, the comedy and the face, Marian takes the cake.

I actually grew up watching Vilma Santos' Darna movies... but i think the Darna series of GMA 7 is quite a great improvement from those movies... but i think Vilma is such a cute Darna... Marian kind of like brought the sexy back (for me)... Thanks for the response...

I havent really seen Vilma as Darna 'in action', just those stills that they show whenever commemorating her achievements or something to that effect. You're always welcome.^_^

I think my Darna would always be Vilma Santos, no matter who will portray Darna in the future and even now. I think Darna is Vilma and Vilma is Darna. So you can say that my favorite Darna is Vilma. For me she gave the character a face and for me she will be the only Darna

The result of the PEP online poll would agree with you... a lot of voters voted for Vilma Santos as the best Darna of all time... mainly because she had the most Darna movies among the other actresses who portrayed the part... aside for that... she really looked cute in the outfit... hi aseretdd!!^^ i also want to watch the Darna today but i know i only will be disappointed with the special effects so i don't watch it. but i saw the commercials and i was impressed with the make-ups and costumes and i think Marian Rivera looks nice as Darna. i also prefer her over Angel Locsin. well, i never really liked Angel Locsin. i agree with one of the comments here that she lacks facial expressions. unlike Marian. ^^ i have seen Vilma Santos, Nanette Medved, Anjanette Abayari and i think i like both Marian and Vilma as Darna. ^^ Nanette Medved is sexy but i think she has a bit of a big mouth and Anjannete is sexy too but i don't like her "tabinging" tagalog. ^^

The make up of the "Impakta" is quite impressive... not that scary... but good enough... i just saw the clip where Valentina was changing snake skin... and that really got me excited to watch the next episode... but like you... i really hope they will improve the special effects... a good story line with that will surely make the series worth watching... I read darna, in comics before. Then they televise it and I watch Vilma Santos, as the prime actress being Darna. Now they repeated it to show on T.V. I don't like to watch it anymore because it seems people is not wise enough to choose a good show to watch on T.V. Why they show it again since they show it in the person of Angel Locsin. Isn't that because Marian Rivera, is now in lime light? have a great day!

Well, there are so many version of Darna that we can do... just like what they did to Superman... they already had the movies... then several tv series... the latest of which is Smallville... choosing a good show does not really entail any wisdom... because it is for entertainment purposes... Well that your views my friend. But in my opinion they should not re-film it again because it is already viewed in just a year. They should wait for five years or beyond so that the next generation will know about Darna, not now? Have a great day, my friend! take care

I agree with one user here that Anjanette Abayari was the perfect figure in Darna but the story was kinda weird because at that story she got some sort of amnesia there. Angel Locsin is ok but the story is screw up because they used a bit of a Space Story there which wasn't Filipino like. Good thing and i hope it's the last that they air the new series of Darna portrayed by Marian..that affection is really different from Angel's.

I did not see the Darna movie where Anjanette Abayari played the role... and i did not really follow the series of Angel Locsin... because it was a pain just watching 1 episode... they both look great... but i think story wise... Marian Rivera has the best one... just hope the writer and director won't screw that up... Thanks for the response...

Well, there have been quite a number of actresses who portray Darna. Vilma Santos, Sharon Cuneta, Anjanette Abayari, and some of the others. But as of me, I'd say Nanette Medved will always be my favorite. She may be not the sexiest Darna or shall I say the skinniest, however, the story of the Darna movie she made was just a great one. From that movie it made me realize that even you don't have the perfect body and the great looks to a heroic deed you can still be a hero. Sexy heroes are just overrated. Not saying I don't like them, I do like them, but probably I'd like to see something different for these kind of piece.

I haven't watched that Darna movie of Nanette Medved... but from the photos... she is like the foreigner Darna because she is half German... and doesn't really look like a Filipina... but she is quite sexy in a skinny kind of way... Thanks for the response...

It's always be Vilma Santos. She was so innocent and pretty when she portrayed that role during her younger days. It was pure and simple, not like the modern Darnas.

I agree... Vilma was the most innocent and cutest of all the Darnas... and i think that is the reason why the she is so much identified with that character... but nowadays... tv series and movies tend to make use of the sexier side of the character... thus the sexy Darnas appeared... Unfortunately, I cannot watched those Telefantasya Series like Darna because that's not available in this country to where I am now. About my favorite Darna, it was still Vilma Santos. I think she have the most number of Darna movies from the past. But if you say the Marian is the best for you, i could agree to it too since she is favored nowadays and from all ages, they liked her. I think the one i don't like who acted as a Darna was Sharon Cuneta, sorry ( in that movie, Captain Barbell), she played a small portion only. And then, I also don't like Nannette Medved. I like Anjanette Abayari also, but not that much like Angel and Marian. I think our country still needs to improve on visual effects specially on the flying part. But anyway, still proud to say that Darna is still my favorite Filipino Action Hero on screen.

I agree that there is a need to improve the visual effects of these tv fantaseries... that would certainly get them more people to watch... i never saw Sharon Cuneta as Darna... that would have been interesting to see... Vilma Santos is the most famous Darna of all time, Marian is said to be one of the best actress who portray Darna. I hope that she will be able to keep up her good work. More power to GMA for always making a great show.

I had seen Darna of Vilma Santos, so I guess she is still the Darna that I have known. I have seen Angel Locsin in Darna costume, I must say she has the sexiest, well proportioned body to have played Darna.

I am on my early twenties but my favorite Darna is still my forever idol who is VILMA SANTOS-RECTO. I just don't know what is with her that I really, really like her. I even watch her tv special in ABS-CBN every Saturday after MMK, just to get to know her more closely and personal. Even though I am already very sleepy on that day & hour (I work as a call center & I am always sleep deprived), I would still patiently wait and watch the special. Angel Locsin was also good, but she is better far off than Vilma. But sorry to say, I don't really like Marianne Rivera as a Darna, but she was good on her Mari Mar character.

The most beautiful face in Darna is Marian Rivera and she is also a good actress. I think GMA 7 made the right choice even though they staged Darna before with angel locsin, the resoponse no is more overwhelming than before. I think better special effects will make it better.

I watched Darna on its pilot episode. It was nice, story wise. It's different kind of story compared to previous Darna serye or movie..It's an all star cast as well. Just a suggestion, I hope it will reach to their end to improve more on visual effects because this is what the show is all about. Story wise it was great. Continue on making great stories that viewers won't only be mesmerized and entertained witht he effects but most importantly, lesson learned from watching the fantaserye...Kudos to all the staff....

i did not watch angel locsins darna and i am not going to watch the darna of mariam rivera as well. but i have a favorite darna of course and that is anjanette abayari. for as far as i can remember anjanette was the very first darna who does not use any double for the stunts she did and i love this darna for the valentina is cherrie gil on of the best actress there is in the philippines. so compare to the new darnas you mentioned i still go for anjanette.

Anjanette Abayari is the most suited and my fave for Darna because of her athletic stature and her brown complexion (typical Filipina). Too bad, Peque Gallaga and the writers messed up with the costume and the storyline itself when they did the movie more than a decade ago. Vilma Santos was quite chubby when she did four Darna movies in the 1970s-early 1980s. On the other hand, Nanette Medved was "too thin" for the role in 1991. Angel Locsin was fine in the TV series in 2005. She also had some athletic stance and figure. Marian Rivera (the current Darna) is also fine. She's like a slim version of Vilma Santos but with a mestiza look. She's doing well playing Narda. I have yet to see her playing Darna. I have seen other movies/tv series about Darna when I was a kid e.g., Rio Locsin and Lorna Tolentino. I also saw some old movie re-runs on TV e.g. "Darna at ang Babaeng Impakta" (Darna and the Female Monster - man, that monster behind the lady character was really scary, even scarier than the current version) and "Darna at ang Babaeng Tuod" (Darna and the "Wooden" Lady - for lack of better term). I think Gina Pareño also played the role in the late 60s or early 70s.

Writers and directors tend to mess up a good character like Darna... i always wonder what they were thinking... this is why i rarely watch Filipino movies... i didn't know that Gina Pareno also played Darna... i hope they will show that as one of the classic films one of these days... Hello there aseretdd! It is nice to be responding to your discussion again. Anyway, I have not yet seen the new Darna show but I think Marian Rivera would be a very good Darna character. However, I think Angel Locsin looks good as Darna.

I was not able to watch Vilma Santos portray Darna. I will try watching the new Darna series some time so that I can have some basis for comparison.

Angel Locsin does look good in that Darna costume... i just wish the writers and directors did a good job in coming up with a great story... but with Marian Rivera... the story looks very promising... that is why i will try to watch it again this week... We really have to a lot improvement when it comes to visual effects, this does not just apply to Darna but to other local programs as well.Ü I'm sure though that they're always finding ways to make their visual effects look as real and as seamless as possible. I think Marian makes a good Darna. Vilma Santos is also okay.

i watched the darna movie where vilma santos was the darna. i remembered she was really cute even when wearing the costume. i still prefer to watch her as darna than the other actresses who did. in fact i prefer watching darna movies than the series. but if i'm going to pick between marian rivera and angel locsin, i think marian looks better in the costume. :)
