With the time gone in myLot,I think everybody here must be post a lot
But for me,as a Chinese,I gradually feel my English is become worse and worse. The worst thing is I feel my English words are poor and they got a low supply. Many times I even think my English post should be translated into Chinese first, and then make a second translation to back them into English, because my poor English words limit my expression
I must give myself a Plan of learning and improving my English.I think that'll help more excellent here

Hi aprces,
English are just like other languages. All of them are hard to learn. But English grammar are worst. You need to practice a lot in order to master it. It is hard to practice unless we have someone who are good in English so they can spot our mistake and correcting it immediately.
If you want to improve your word or enrich your vocabulary, you should use dictionary. There is a lot of dictionary on and offline. I always use online dictionary to look for a proper words to used.
Good luck and have a nice day.

oops Akuler, I answered you above. Your English is always good but I agree that it is easier to correct oneself if someone corrects you rather than allows you to carry on making the same error, as without correction you think you are right and carry on using it only re-inforcing the mistake. A small example for instance from you sentence above just tuned to perfection would be "someone who is good in English so they can spot our mistakes and correct them immediately". The mix up with your language use tends to be on simple things like confusing 'is' and 'are', whilst your use of vocabulary is excellent, for instance in your use of 'enrich'.
Akuler please tell me off if I should not have pointed out the mistake, I was in no way trying to offend, as you know.

Am I offended? I am not offended at all. I already know you and I know your intention. And I should thank you for that. At least I know where am I wrong. Furthermore we are talking about English and yours are inline with it.
That is the problem with me here. I don't have partner to practice my English. I only use English for online purpose. And since we are allowed to make a mistake here, no one bother about our mistake. And we can't improve ours since we don't know what is wrong and where is it. Languages are all about practices for me. Especially for pronunciation. It is easy to write it right but it is hard to pronounce it.

You've hit the nail on the head there akuler, pronounciation is very difficult to master from a book. For Greek I used Rossetta Stone CD roms for pronounciation, they are a mixture of basic and difficult but they only speak in the language you are learning, you can read the word and hear the pronounciation at the same time, if you can manage to download an English version I'd recommend them highly.
Of course I knew you wouldn't mind the odd correction and you can always ask you know, if someone hadn't corrected the gender I used for the word 'in' six years ago I'd be using it wrongly till this day as it would have become automatic.

Hi aprces, be assured that when learning a new language you have stages of being much worse at it. The more you learn the more you become aware of your own mistakes so start to feel it's not good enough. Just persevere and your confidence will grow but it seems just fine already. One tip would be when you learn a new word write it in a few sentences to become familiar with it, and play around with the tenses. Also when you learn a new word start to explore other words which mean the same thing so you can easily increase your vocabualry. Good luck.

Hi akuler, believe me English tenses are easy, as you say there are only three changes to a word, in Greek there are eight, plus eighteen ways of saying the word 'the'. English is relatively simple - take the word talk - I am talking to you, I talked with you, I will talk to you. They all derive from the same word. In Greek the past tense has sometimes no connection at all with the present tense and is a completely different word, with six different endings depending on whom we are talking to. And if you make a simple mistake in English we know what you meant to say, even if it was not expressed perfectly.

Filipino has lots domestic workers exportation every year,so this makes people to learn in urgent.Needless to say Singapore's official language is English.India has lots software engineers who often communicate with the occident

Hello,I'm Gaven.I am Chinese,a new mylotter.I have the same feeling with you at the beginning, but now I think I have corrected the old learning strategy.First,we should have courage to face our trouble, imagine that learning English is a happy thing,we don't need to pay more attention to our prounciation or expression, speak out loudly,no one will laugh at you.Buy a good Oxford Dictionary or Longman Dictionary, they are very helpful for improving your English, see the English explanation, don't alawys focus on the vocabulary you want to know, pay attention to the explanation, you may find some new words that you don't comprehend, learn them, like roll a snowball, you will learn a lot of words in the end. Please trust yourself, you can do the best.

The great thing about English is that there is 1000 different ways to say one thing. You should try using a thesaurus when you find yourself stuck with the same old word. Try something new or start reading a novel. For example, try reading Twilight, it's simple but yet has some difficult words for beginners and then you could look them up and use them in your every day conversation.

1000 in 1,to be frankly, maybe Chinese has more,i'm not about to make a scare
Twilight,i've see this movie,to tell you the truth,i like it very much, now i am waiting for the continuation.A movie which can describe vampire in so aestheticism,it was the first time I had ever seen before
The key of learning language just need three point, that is : 1.use2.use it for more2.continue to use
Yeah?

Well, you can little bits of English by listening and reading what people write/say. English is very tricky, there are lots of strange rules... No one can fully master it because it's constantly changing.

I have a lot of respect for anyone who is able to speak another language well enough to be a part of a site like this. I have tried in the past to learn many languages, and would love to have learnt Mandarin, but I just can't absorb the words, tenses of grammar! I can usually just about manage to learn how to say hello to someone, but more than that and I am stuck.
So I think that you should be proud of what you have managed to do so far, and I am sure that with continued use of myLot you shall start to surprise yourself with your understanding of English again :)
Good luck and well done for getting this far,
Dranz
PS: Being British if you ever had any questions about the language I could see about answering them for you :)

Respect for the one who can say another language,me too
You want to learn the Mandarin,I can use the Mandarin because im a Chinese, but im not sure whether i can teach you or not.if you want to say hello to someone,i think you must be know how to say it out.Just"ni hao",right? after that if you want to know what will they do? you can say"zhe shi qu na er a",HAHA~
Actually I think what i've teach above is nothing valuable, the purpose of learning language is to express yourself,so ignore what i've showed to you
Thanks for your kindness about willing to teach me
