myLot discussions - Is the detail or subject most important when you answer?

I hope that subject makes sense, there is a word limit and I am not all that great at condensing my ideas!
But the long version, in case the above is as confusing as I think it is, is this:
When you are looking for discussions to reply to, or when you are replying to the actual discussions themselves, do you tend to just go by the questions asked in the subject space, or do you read the details that the person has provided, and then formulate your answer?
I like to do it the latter way in order to make sure I am answering the right question. That said yesterday I did it the first way (subject only) and noticed about an hour later when I saw the topic on the homepage that I had somehow answered a question all of my own creation, and so went back to try and answer the question the person actually asked!
But yea, that incident has definitely led me to believe that it is important to read the details first in order to try and avoid making that mistake again.
What do you think?
Thanks for reading,
Dranz

Hi Dranz,
It is important to real all the detail before we respond to any discussion. And I bet you got your lesson.
Sometimes the title is misleading and not the real question the OP want to ask. They just use the subject/title as an attraction. And I know someone who always use that kind of tactic. He is a senior here and you have to read all the detail to know what exactly he said.

Just go to Mike latest discussion. You will lost if you didn't go through all the detail there. Someone even lost after read the whole discussion because Mike actually talk about something else there. You had to make thought before answering it. He mention about car but it is actually about msyd.

Hi Akuler,
Yep, I definitely got my lesson after missing the point!
Now I try and read things more carefully to make sure I gauge what the point the OP is after actually is. Though alas even when I read things I think I still miss the point at times because my memory is like a sieve and sticks to words that might not have been all that important! Oh well, I am learning lol!
Many thanks for the response, I apologise for the time it took to comment

Hi,
I think it is absolutely necessary to read the entire discussion before responding. To only read the subject line and to answer in a haste can be very wrong. The subject line can be entirely different from the actual question posed. So it is always good to read the entire discussion before responding. The subject line is just to attract your attention towards the post. Happy mylotting.

Hi Bodhisatya,
Apologies that it has taken so long to comment
I definitely agree with what you said here, I tend to (probably unwisely) do random subject lines because all the good stuff goes in the discussion part and I don't know how to shorten the content into the title lol!
Many thanks for the response,
Dranz

Before I respond to the topic. I look at the subject if it interest me then I read what the person who posted the topic wrote and then I write a response. However it's the subject heading that makes me want to respond to a top, and then what the person is asking.

I will defnititely read the content of the discussion, as there will possibly be somehng in it that I can relate to. However, the subject does draw me to the discussion to begin with, but reading the conten helps me really to understand what they are trying to say that relates to the subject. It is much easier not to read the content, but a person can really miss the whole point of the discussion unless they do. That is why I read the contents. Now, there are some that have really long discussions, and thsoe I will just skim over, as it takes way to long to read them, and I find the points I am looking for in the discussion, and post a response to those. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.

Hi rosekiss,
Sorry for the last comment
I do that as well with the really long discussions, skim them. I think half the time I do it though I completely miss the point. But alas, I am hampered by a terrible concentration span so reading it all won't work until I can copy and paste the content and work through it bit by bit. I look forward to that time (and perhaps the people I reply to will as well lol).
Many thanks for a very on topic response lol

I think the detail or subject is most important when answer. I do get lot of discussion on it. It welcomes suggestions and ideas for the particular subject. Thus sharing information about a specific subject would be some what relevant for our day to day life..

I think both have to work equally..if i see a great subject it catches my eyes,,but when i read it and its just boring, makes no sense or just a one word liner kind of question i skip it..i want details, questions asked to me,questions i want to ask them..not just what kind of computer to i have lol..if ur gonna ask that than u need to ask more questions to keep me interested..know what i mean?

I personally feel that the whole thing should be given a fair read before answering the question. Sometimes the heading is simple but the actual discussion may take into the depths of the matter. Many a times I have seen that people give the same responses which are already present in the discussion. This will not help in the long run.
