Do you live by the motto of "Honesty is the best policy"?
I think it's a good way to live. Even white lies can hurt someone eventually in time. And of course we count on people we run into in our daily lives to be honest and do their jobs properly. Especially those who deal in money have to be very honest, as well as Dr's where they don't always have the answer you wanted to hear....
I'm trying to bestow this trait on my kids of course. You know like if someone broke something or who made this mess? Usually they play the blame game or act like they don't know what I"m talking about. *sigh*

i do,but it's got me in trouble before just by being honest.
i'd think my own friends would know when asking me for an honest answer about something, they're gonna get one.but after asking,it seems to be not what they want to hear.
*sigh*
i tell some ask somebody else for an opinion now.
i don't like headaches.

*LOL* you are crazy woman! Yeah, I know about those situations, where they want you to be honest but it's not what they want to hear, they want you to tell them the good not what you really see.

Hi snugglebunny: That was one thing my father drilled into me when I was small. I don't know whether to be happy or sad about it because I just cannot lie now even to save my life. At times its pretty distressing not being able to lie and yet not hurt someone's feeling, then I try not to give a direct answer. But one good thing about being honest 100% is you don't have to remember the lies you have told.

That is very true. That's the bad thing about lying you can't remember who you told what to and the details that go along with it. Wich of course leads to another lie you won't remember the next time when asked about it either.

Well, kids will always be that way with their excuses and blame games but if you teach them honesty, that's how they will grow up. And example is very important! I never broke the speed limit with my kids in the car because even though there was no cop around, I had to be honest and do the limit. They saw me pay for things I may have broken, return too much change, admit to them that I made a mistake, etc.
Sure, they lied sometimes but now they're adults and live their lives honestly. You'll do fine, especially when they see you practice what you preach!

That is very true my friend. I hope they see my honesty and manners tward others. But you know sometimes their behavior is like night & day, though I know I"m not alone as others have said similar problems with thier kids. You know I get compliments from the school staff about my oldest but at home.... she's lucky she isn't grounded everyday.

I do think that honesty if the best policy, in fact I'm completely useless at lying! Lying just makes life so much more complicated. When people lie, one lie inevitably leads to another, plus you have to remember all the lies you've told so that you don't reveal that you've been lying! Of course, being honest doesn't always make you popular - but I'd still rather be honest!

That is true, honesty does come before being popular with your friends. But honesty is what will save you in the end in any bad situation.

Hello Snuggle,
I am a totall a believer in "Honesty is the best policy". I am also a believer in what goes around, comes around. We all have to take responsibilities for our own actions. As for your kids, well....they are kids. Kids will be kids and they will learn once they grow and start making their own decisions. Don't worry, Snuggle...while you are teaching them wrong from right don't think they are not listening because they are. Give it time and you will see the fruits of your labor. ;-)
Happy MyLotting my friend
Olivia~

I hope so it doesn't always seem that way though. Every parent wants their kids to be successful and be a good person, the trouble is getting them there. *sigh*

Not always. Especially when u dont know how to be honest diplomatically. A person can be honest, keeping in mind timing and the context. But it should be sugar coated to such an extent that the person who receives such medicine should think it is an ice cream treat. Not everybody is equipped with such skills. Therefore, it is better to resort to white lies. As long as a lie does not hurt anybody, or has not potential to harm anybody, i dont find anything wrong with it. Unless, of course, u want to lose a good friend. They are so few of them in the world. :(

That's true it does take some talent to sugar coat things especially on a moments notice where you don't have time to come back with a response. Sometimes I ignore what they ask and change the topic to get out of giving my answer.

I completely agree with your opinion. Honesty is always the best policy. People don't have to remember many things if they are honest in the first place. If you are dishonest you have to cook up a story with all the details and see that everything matches with the story you are telling. You also have to remember a lot of things so that you don't counter your own tale. I have always tried to go by this saying. Sometimes it is not possible due to external factors but usually I follow honesty is the best policy.

honesty serves u very well when you are true hearted .Nowadays such policy of being honest hurts most of the time. But honesty is indeed the best policy to have coz its one kind of a better mental treatment one would give to himself/herself to be in a peace of mind.telling truths all the time, being true to the people one knows and keeping everything outspoken makes a guy well ,honest.
