On date this year federal and state governments have combined to spend over $32 billion dollars to fight the war on drugs. Being that we are use to speaking in terms of government spending in the trillions this number might seem small. Understand that by doing the math by the end of the year about $60 billion dollars will be spent to prevent someone from doing drugs. This is not just a one year idea, next year our government will do it again. Putting it into perspective government will spend $1,620.37 each and every second of 2009. This money is not going to build something or invest in something. This money is being taken straight out of the economy and burnt. At some point we have to come to some conclusion that the war on drugs is more costly than it is worth.
