has anybody seen the new rules pertaining to tags being enforced?

We're not supposed to put tags on discussions unless they're related to the discussion. This as a result of some lovely trolls putting abusive tags on some discussions. Now I used to put "Dawn" or "Dawn is silly" or "Dawn something" in tags just so I wouldn't have to put a tag in when I came back to a discussion. And I have stopped doing that because of the new rules. But I saw today that a few people were still doing that. So I am just wondering, other than seeing some abusive tags get removed, has anybody heard anything from Admin pertaining to inappropriate use of tags? I'm going to bet not. lol

i wish to hell the trools would all croak & go back where they come. i did get some kind of notice about the tags but i never put anything ugly on any of mine to start with. It made sense to me may not have to mylot. I think it was when i went to tag something & it came up. It wasn't an individual notice.

I've been noticing that too. I've never noticed your name as a tag though. I have noticed two other people's names appearing as tags more often and I'm wondering...will they be in trouble for this? because it may NOT be them doing the tagging. It might be a good way of getting members into strife unless admin can tell who does the actual tag. I tried to find the alert so I could re-read it to be certain of the wording ....but no luck. I contacted admin a few days ago and have not heard back. I think it's a good idea not to use your own name as a tag unless the discussion is about you. Did those friends of mine not receive the alert or did they not understand...why would you continue to use your name as a tag when specifically told not to?

I can't remember the exact wording they used. Did they say "inappropriate tagging" and if they did, did they mean 'obnoxious inappropriate' or 'nothing to do with the discussion' inappropriate?

I stopped doing it on other people's discussions. I'd imagine Admin can tell who left the tag though. Otherwise the alert saying that they were going to monitor it and possibly ban abusers would be a totally idle threat, wouldn't it?

I make it easy for myself like for discussions I answer, I choose one word relevant to the topic. Like yours here, I'm going to put rules to the tag since it's got something to do with it. Quite easy if you choose 1 word related to the discussion topic; and not that hard, in my opinion..

Yes dawn, I know about that rule and i saw the alert and the discussion about that. But even before that rule come out, I never tag inappropriately. Most of the times, i skip tagging with my comments and responses. I even saw some of my discussions tagged with unrelated words. There is also one who tags my discussions with "01" but I can't tell who were they and I never reported them. Just leave it there.

I wouldn't report something like that either unless it was abusive. Not worth it...

oh this is really new to me i was wondering what a tag means and not even now. is it something the system generates itself with respect to the topic discussed are is it we decide to create a tag. well most of the discussions i have skipped the tag and for few i typed some thing related to topic. so as per new rule we are not supposed to add tags to any discussion and we can skip it. this is what im getting from the discussions if i am wrong please correct me.

With the exception of the "mature content" tag, which is system generated, you put the tags in when you: 1) create a discussion or 2) reply to a discussion

the Alert said that the tag should be related to the discussion, but I'd imagine you can put anything you like on your own discussion, I'd just be careful what you put on other people's

so we can type in tags for all the discussions we create and for the discussions we respond right. but is it that the tag should be related to the discussion going on or it can just anything for our won reference ?

Dawn I saw you doing that and I thought how intelligent, if you search for a discussion just ones that you responded to your tags will be brought up first and that could be on outside search engines I notice that in some of the archives they get scrambled as they get older, I was thinking your tagging discussions could help keep them all straight.

I don't think it is a violation, or they would have let us know... One of the other things that they don't do at MyLot is time stamp the discussion at least not accessible to the participants. I'm sure that the server contains fields for each discussion posted and dated, it is a behind the scenes kind of thing.

I stole that idea from Gaby, actually, and I've seen some other people do it too. I wonder if that sort of thing is getting looked at since it's technically in violation of the rules...

I got the alert about this new rule several days ago. I pay attention to it and I don't want to break any rules here. So I am careful to put the tags. Sometimes I just leave it blank because I am not sure whether my tags are suitable or not. I love China

I used to leave them blank, but it's annoying having to take an extra step every time you reply to the same discussion!

Ye i noticed abou it also becaus i read an alert here about tags and new policy or rules about them!! In reality in the majority of posts that i answer here i won't put tags at all...and i will put them only if ai open a new discussion ...i guess normally i tagged them with normal tags related to the topic but form this point of view it depends also from the interpretation that mylot adm will give to the single tags!!It sounds me a little strange new rules and i guessed that may be they wan prevent some tags who ar not really related to the post and only to get more popularity?i don't know...anyway i think it would be ok too even the new tag systems!!

well, I remember I got an alert from mylot admin last week, required to tag meaningful tags, frankly speaking I really not sure which tags I posted are inappropriate, so I'd better leave the tag blank onwards to avoid get the send warning. LOL!

I have not seen any of it. I would say, though, that if it is a discussion you started it is appropriate to tag it with your name.

I don't really see any problem with this new rule since I have always put one word tags that are related to the topics ever since, tags are suppose to help users who are searching for discussions of certain topics or subjects. I did not see the point of putting nonsense tags so I never do that.
@dawnald (85146)

Ah well I don't consider putting my name in a nonsense tag, there's a purpose to it, but I'm only going to do it on my own discussions from now on.

Hi dawnald, You know I.m sure I saw the new guideline saying if you don't tag your discusion properly you account be get delete, really not sure, but I have always put in the tag that I'm supposed to. Tamara

no problem in me because i put a tag in the discussion that is related to the topic or related to my response. so better put a tag that is not abbusive so that your account would not be deleted by the admin. put a nice and topic related tags. happy Mylotting!!

Well that's the purpose of the new rule, to stop people from putting abusive tags. But it makes me wonder how much they are monitoring and what they would actually delete somebody for.
