What causes anxiety? I was diagnosed with anxiety in July. I was diagnosed with depression inApril/May. I had anxieties then too, but thought it was just the depression. About 6 weeks later my anxieties were escalating. I'm not sure where it all comes from. I couldn't back out of the driveway, drive somewhere, or leave the house unless someone was with me. Even little things like dishes and laundry caused it. I would stress about going to family gatherings or other places of public. I wouldn't have full blown panic attacks, but probably pretty close. I would get shaky, sweat alot, and sometimes come to the point that I was so anxious and overwhelmed that I just cried and cried. I am on wellbutrin and celexa. Things have been better, but the anxieties are still there. I go to counseling. My first visit, I couldn't find the place. That started the panic. Then I thought I was going to be late which made it even worse. Finally I pulled over into a huge parking lot and found the building. I had to wait to go inside so I could calm down.
Am I wired different? Or do I have deep down issues? I have never been like this before.

Everything that you stated differently sound like anxiety. I completely understand how you feel, I also have anxiety and I have experienced a lot of what you have said. The reasons for all of these things are different for everyone because they are often caused by an experience in your life or simply a phobia that you have had for a long time. Also once it starts up the smallest things like laundry or dishes might set it off because it causing a tiny tiny bit of stress. There are some medicines that you can take to relax only when you needed it. You might be taking on of those already, I just don't know since I've never heard of wellbutrin or celexa. Also on the note of medicine as I'm sure you are being told to do, try a few out if they don't work, do some research on your own to see what might help best and they talk to your doctor.
As for going out into public places and family gatherings I think I may know the reason for this or at least it's my reason for being afraid of them. I have a fear of crowds I've noticed, it may be the same for you. This oddly enough doesn't seem uncommon for people with anxiety.
A quick tip for when you are starting to panic, but you aren't in the middle of a panic attack is to breathe deeply and slowly, basically just get in control of your breathing. Then picture a happy thought or image. Amazingly enough this can be relaxing and prevent a panic attack. This of course doesn't work for everyone but it's worth a try. Also doing yoga helps a lot and listening to soothing music.
As for being wired differently this isn't exactly true... it's more the chemicals in your body and your nervous system... your instincts mainly. I'm sure that you have heard of the "fight or flight" response. Anxiety is just that, everyone has it, however people diagonalized with Anxiety have a stronger response to the point where it interferes with your life or causes panic attacks. During the time that I've had Anxiety I have experienced both the fight and the flight. I think the flight is the most common. An example for you and me is when we go into public places is that our mind registers it as danger and tells the rest of the body that you need to get to safety, which starts making you feel anxious so that you'll get out of there. However for most people being in a public place doesn't register as dangerous. Over time and forcing yourself to put yourself in "dangerous" situations you'll become better slowly and the anxious feeling will become less intense. It's taken me years to get to the low level of that feeling that I now feel.

Wellbutrin and Celexa are antidepressants. The Wellbutrin worked very well for the depression. I had anxiety at that time, but wasn't sure if it was part of the depression or a different problem. The Celexa was added because the anxieties got worse. The Celexa works great. I was kept on the Wellbutrin because my Dr says it can prevent some of the unwanted side effects of the Celexa.
I do hate crowds. I guess I never totally realized that was causing the attacks.

I don't know what brings about anxiety in people. Everyone experiences it in some degree at some point. It's just some poeple have it much worse and more frequently then others. I have a family member with social anxiety, and his mind never stops going. Always thinking about something, I should say overthinking. He's always thinking in the negative too. In situations he always thinks the worst is going to happen. On top of it he's got OCD and has, I think the word is rituals, that he does. One time he made me turn a light back on so could look at a light before I turned it off. I don't understand why, but I don't give him grief about it.
Well I don't know anxiety to this degree, but I'm sure with help and your wanting to help yourself, that will power you can over come it. What I've read is most never fully get rid of their anxiety but they learn ways to live and deal with their feeling when it comes on.
All the best to you. :)

Anxiety is overloading the mind with multiple thoughts or pressures, that the mind or brain cannot able to withstand..so we burst out in anxiety and tension.
