There is a post here discussing whether you are scared of dark or not? I did response in that discussion, and definitely my answer is yes. It's always been my biggest fear and i want to overcome it. I feel it's rude to make people discussion as yours, and start to discuss in people post how to overcome this fear. When it's dark, a closet, or under a bed can be very scary for a kid. When you have grown up, as an adult, is there anyone of you still have this kind of fear and imagination? If you do, is there anything you do to overcome the negative thinking and imagination, especially when you're alone? What do you think?

Negative thinking and imaginations will happens in allmost all the persons, especially when they are alone....loneliness leads to a different mood which tends to think so much, specially when it is dark..some times it will make a fear thinking about some negative happenings..but according to my opinion this situation can be avoided to a great extend by positive thinking.try to forget the past negative happenings from your life..find your aim, think about it,do for it,..then everyone will achieve the steps to sucess....

when i am alone both positive and negative thinking comes to my mind, especially in the dark there are more chances of negative thinking.this feeling comes when our mind is not in a state of rest.something that is running in your mind or any incident that has occured to u will all gets mixed up and create a new picture of imagination.to overcome this problem i should take rest .i will look for another task and listen to music or watch television in that situation

Even I fear a lot about dark a lot. Few days back I read an article somewhere in news paper, it talked about the mind. It says our subconscious mind listen to everything we say but remember only significant words. So when we tell it don't forget, it takes order as don't forget, but the major portion it remembers is forget and and it forgets the word Don't. So instead of giving the orders like dont forget... i.e. negativ orders just give the positive orders like remember. It might work, no harm in trying once.

This is something new i can try, i don't really know how our mind work out the things. I should use the word 'remember' instead of 'don't scared don't scared'. I'll try to tell myself that 'remember, God will protect me'. Thank you so much for sharing =)

I don't ever recall being afraid of the dark for for some reason I always used to focus on negative thinking! I would indulge in this all the time and I just knew that it was affecting me in a serious way! However, things have changed now! I try to focus more on positive thinking instead. I read quite a few positive thinking books and seem to be doing me the world of good. I think that it's far better to remain positive than constantly live with a negative frame of mind! I'm sure that positive thinking helps you physically as well! I'm far happier now as a result of choosing the better path! Andrew

Thanks for sharing. I'm a positive person, when there's something happen, I'll try to look at it in a positive way. It's just that i have this imagination problem, maybe i can say that it's a bit ridiculous for an adult still scared of the bogey man stories.

You have only referred to dark. But there can be several forms of negative thinking.Quite often, they may even start from very valid reasons. Too much of suppression may result in rage that pops out with force and makes the person feel ashamed of it. My way of tackling negative imagination is telling myself - its not happening as yet, there is ample time, and many things can happen in between. And I also tell myself if it has to happen, it will. Why lose the present for that. I succeed. More so because I have alternate hobbies which keep me away from stress, and there is less pressure. Negative thinking is more difficult to control because I do resent some ill-treatment meted out to me. Obviously, my thoughts about such people are not very good. My mind keeps telling me this is what I should have said or this is what I should do. But even these bouts diminish over a period once a reasonable distance is established from the source of such irritation.

Ya, my main problem is the negative imagination and the darkness. I always have positive thinking in my other things. Apart of scared of the darkness and the negative imagination, I'm an optimist person. I do have alternate hobbies like you, to distract myself from all those imagination that scared me.

Its pretty simple, actually, and doesn't apply only to fears. Just feel good about yourself, and start attracting positive energy. Just believe that there will not be creepy things in the dark and then start visualizing a fun or memorable scene, like a campfire or something. Sooner or later all the fears go away. If you believe that you will overcome your fears, and start visualizing a you without that fear, then you will get over it.

It's a good point you have. I never try to visualize a 'me' without the fear of dark and other negative imagination. Thanks for the tips. Happy mylotting ;)

I'm afraid of the dark at times. During the period where I watch a lot of horror films, my imagination just runs wild and every shadow in the dark seems to be some kind of creature or spirit. There's also times when I'm upset or depressed and it seems that ghouls and demons are also out to get me when I turn off the lights. I can think rationally in the day time but when I'm all alone at time, I freak out quiet a bit.

I always try not to watch horror movie, the scenario in the horror movie can make me relate it to my own place and I'll freak out. I'll avoid that particular place for some time. I'm totally normal in the day time, but sometimes when I'm all alone and it's too quiet, i feel not alright and go out to get some fresh air and see people outside. May i know how old are you? Is there anything you do to calm down yourself like you said you feel something not right when you turn off the lights?

I'm ashamed to tell you that i am 24, and live in a hostel. Sometimes, i'm going to live by myself in the big house. Actually, it's not really that big, but it appears big to me as i am alone there. when it is black out, i will be so scared to stay inside the house. I try to become independent and not call for friends every time when it is blackout. Is there anyone outside there still have the small kids imagination and fear of dark? Anyway, thanks for responding =)

I think if you have the will power to change yourself, you can be whatever you want to be, nothing will be impossible. But if you dont want to change yourself, then no one in the world can ever change you.I think becoming a positive that is optimist from pesimist is really not that hard but its not too easy too, just get the will power that you will never think anything bad about yourself or about anyone. And always think that anything that happens has some specific reason for it.

Hmm.. i always wish that i have will power and strong determination, so that i am the one that control my mind and fear. Thanks for the advice 'anything that happens has a reason for it'. when it's dark again and i am by myself, I'll try to think that there's a reason for this, which is to train me and fight the fear.

To overcome negative thinking is simple yet might be very difficult too, you just need to try to think about the positive one and to let go the negative one for a moment, I was very scared of dakness too and my imaginations were too much sometimes so I learn how to overcome this by saying that very soon there will be light and afterall I am not going to suffer a lot in the darkness, so I have this hope that nothing will happen to me and I believe in my hope too.

Hi med889, thanks for posting here. I agree with you, it can be simple, just stop the thinking! But yet sometimes it might be very difficult, when the negative thinking is too strong in my mind. It is good to hope and believe in it. Happy mylotting :)

Don't think on the negative aspects of darkness.Think of god or whatever gives you strength and confidence to face your problem.Think of the wonderful things you can do in the dark like having a candle lit dinner with your loved one.Dwell on the positive aspects of life and ponder over thoughts of great people and how they have overcome hardships.Try to imbibe the positive aspects of people who are bold and fearless.

When I was a little girl, I was always frightened by the thunder and used to wrapped myself in the blanket. So I didn't think of how to overcome this fear just say to myself"I will grow up and I won't be scared any longer". When I have grown up, there's still negative thinking and imagination in the dark, especially after watching a scary thriller. But when this happened,I will switch to another thinking and listen to some positive music, that works.
