I travel quite a bit internationally and am often confronted with the problem of jetlag. I am not able to sleep on airplanes and have found no easy solution for overcoming this problem.

I am experienced traveler. I know that jet lag is more likely to happen if a person flies through many time zones. Like I left London at midday and flew to Los Angeles, even though I had been flying for 12 hours I arrived at 15.00 local time. I felt jet lagged and went to bed that night really early. I woke up at 04.00 and thought in was time to get up. Recently I flew from London to Cape Town and only going through two time zones meant I didn't get jet lag. It was the same duration, 12 hours. I have flown from places like Hawaii, Fiji, French Polynesia and the Cook Islands on to Auckland and Sydney. The flight time were early hours like 01.00 or 02.00. So I made sure I had eight hours sleep before going to the airport like in the day time. I suggest eating a light meal before flying and to avoid painful ears I take a pair of ear planes to wear in my ears. Good luck.

HI traveler, I have never traveled outside my country and outside my time zone so that I couldn't really relate to your problem. But my uncle used to tell me that to combat his jetlag, he doesn't sleep. In fact he sings all day/night, or do a lot iof stuffs to keep himself busy. Once fatigue sets in, that's the time he sleeps and makes sure it is at night. I don't know how one feels when he has jet lag so I really couldn't offer any solid advice. Sorry
