Three Kids Walk Into a Bar...

That is the big question of the day in Wisconsin politics. Apparently a lot of states allow parents to buy alcohol for their kids. The idea is for parents to have the chance to teach kids "responsible drinking". I don't know how many states allow kids to drink with their parents in bars though. The practice is being debated in the hallowed halls of Madison, WI. On one side, there are the arguments that not allowing kids in bars is making alcohol a "forbidden fruit" and actually encourages illegal drinking. On the other side are those who argue that kids don't belong in bars and this wouldn't do anything to take away parents' rights to teach their kids responsible drinking at home. There is also the argument that says it should be up to the bar owners to decide. After all, it is legal for kids to drink as long as their parents are present. There is also the fact that, while Wisconsin claims that the law is there to allow parents to teach responsible drinking, the reality is more like, a bunch of parents laughing at their drunk kids. I do think it is two different arguments though. Allowing parents to teach kids responsible drinking in the privacy of their own home is one thing.. kids getting loaded in bars is another thing all together. There are reasons we consider what goes on in bars "adult" activities. How would you react if you walked into a bar and saw a family getting blasted together?

I'd be shocked. And, personally as an adult going to the bar, I wouldn't want kids in there. I mean I'm going to an "adult" place so I don't have to be around kids. What's wrong with your state? Are you sure it's Wisconsin and not Minnesota?

Yes, this is Wisconsin, land where the Attorney General was pulled over for DUI, in a state vehicle, with her kids in the car... and didn't think she did anything wrong... worse yet, while she wasn't re-elected, she did get a lot of votes.

I do not think that underage drinking should be allowed at all. If i walked in somewhere where it was allowed i would not like it, and i would go somewhere else.

[b]Well...I'm so shy, y'know.... First, I'd give the parents an earful, loudly enough for all to hear, then I'd single out the barkeep & do the same, & if by that time the gendarmes hadn't hauled me off, I'd spit on the floor & leave in a self-righteous huf---wait a sec...what'm I doing in a bar at all?? I'm Eastern Orthodox Catholic! We drink, but we don't visit "occasions of sin!" Well, never mind. Guess that's one fantasy I'll never get to live out. Maggiepie "WHERE'S THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE?"[b]
