News showed the authorities in Afghanistan cutting off the popsies plants that produce opium. But the locals were grieving because a few kilos of opium would mean food for a season, or even a year. Now that the authorities had destroyed their crops, death, they say, is upon them. They have no opium anymore to bargain for daily subsistence.
