Tags in mylot... abuse?

I confess... I have been really busy of late! And I am not as active as I used to be in the previous few months. So imagine my surprise when I logged in today and found an alert from mylot about taggings. The message goes something like this "We have noticed a rash of poor tagging as of late. As a reminder, tags are to be used to indicate the topic of a discussion and nothing else. Misuse of tags is grounds for account termination and will not be tolerated. For more information on tags please read our FAQ." Now, tags are something that I always put when ever I post online. And with so many ways to tag a topic, so many words to use, how exactly does one define abuse? I mean, there are so many ways one can see a topic. They can be defined in so many ways. And with so many threads on mylot being generated everyday, how is one even going to remember what are the tags that they put in previously? And when faced with account termination for tag abuse, are there any recourse to defend our selves? I sure wish mylot was more clear on the guidelines they use to identify tag abuse. What do you think? Have you come across any tag abuse incident? Care to share?

From what I can gather, "trolls" were tagging discussions with abusive comments. I noticed a lot of posts that broke guidelines were being tagged withwords like "reported" "scam" etc - I don't know if MyLot meant these as well.

I don't think they mean such kind of tags. There is nothing wrong with tagging discussions with reported, or nothing of substance or that kind of stuff as long as it's justified.

Mylot say they will only tolerate tags linked directly to the subject being discussed from now on, so I did wonder. But I know some people have complained because some really nasty comments were being placed as tags - words that wouldn't be allowed if they were included in a post - and i'd guess this is the main reason.

What ever the case, mylot still did not lay down any hard rules on tags. What defines as acceptable tags? What defines as unacceptable tags? I sure wish mylot makes it clearer so that we know that we are tagging right. Lest we be penalized, and we still do not know why.

I always put tags on my discussions and those that i responded to... that makes them easier to search for here in mylot... i notice that other members tend to put their own username as a tag... and i don't know why they would do that... while other put obscene words... maybe that is why the mylot admin will be a lot strict when it comes to this matter... Some people tend to take advante of the most innocent among all things in this world... and tags are not an exemption to that...

Makes you wonder, if those trolls are here to make a buck, what is their purpose of doing such nasty things to other people here? What is their agenda actually?

Seriously? That happened? A lot must have happened in the few weeks I was away from mylot. Sheez~~~! Why would anyone want to put obscene words in other people's discussion tags? What is the purpose to it?

I got this alert from Mylot a few weeks ago. At that time I was astonished because I was somewhat afraid whether I would break this new rule or not. So I am careful to put tags these days lately. Sometimes I even leave it alone in case of any mistakes. I love China

ALl along, there have been cases of tags abuse, and i'm guilty of doing that.. lol =D There's no way one can be tagging correctly according from the topic because some topics are really short!! PLus, there are times whereby topics keep prompting me to tag when there are already so many tags there, and i will just skip it.. IN order to protect my account, i will rather stick to those simple words from the title instead.. haha =D

I must have misses a lot in the pAst few weeks that I was away. Hmm... Using key words from the title of the discussion is a very good idea! I will take mental note of that when I post in future! Thanks for the tip!

half the time I tag them half the time I do not. Trolls are reporting abusive comments in the tags and I guess the administration decided enough was enough finally. These people knew what they were doing was wrong, I just wish there was a way to identify these abusive people and keep them out of these public forums.

Seriously, I have no idea what happened. Did some one came and did a sweep of all the discussion threads and put nonsense in the tags? I mean, for the admins so send out a warning alert, it must have been really serious. Can fill me in on what happened that prompted the tag abuse warning alert?

You have experienced tag abuse before? Which of your discussion threads got its tags abused? What happened? Did you report it to the administrator? How did the admins deal with it?
