Early catches the worms. This proverb is popular and universal too. But it does not apply to early worms, as early worms be will be eaten by the early birds. What about late birds? Late worms escape the early birds and be eaten by the late birds. How are the worms going to escape? This boils down to survival of the fittest. Please share your view.

James,
Talking about the birds and worms here eh? I always believe, the early birds are very slim whilst the late birds are fat. Why? Because fat worms are lazy, hence sleep late most of the time. The hardworking worms wakes up early to exercise only to be eaten by the birds. So the late fat worm will get eaten later by the lazy bird, so they are fatter. Same applies to us human, the hardworking onces, work their bu**s off day in day out. But the rest of us, it is not merely working hard, it is working smart... :)

Submerryn,
I beg to differ. To a worm, hardworking means they eat and eat and eat and do nothing else. They wake up early to smell the fresh air. Then the hardworking worms become fat and be eaten by early birds. The late worms are lazy, not bother to eat, thus becoming thinner and sickly. Can the late worm be healthy eating thin and sickly worms? Not forgetting early to bed early to rise make a 'bird and worm' healthy and wise.

LOL. I have thought this for years. It was my argument when I didFact not want to get up in the morning. Fact: the worms are there for the taking. Either you get up and get yours or you may miss out.

Hi StarBright,
Of course, the worms are there for you. If you are late there won't been any worms left. This means you just miss the boat or worms. There rarely be any second chance.
Thanks for your view.

The Meaning of this proverb - The Early Bird Catches The Worm Is:
" Success comes to those who prepares well and put in effort "
BUT, The Late Worms Sure Do Have An Advantage Because It Can Escape From Being Eaten By The Early Birds BUT If They Are Unlucky They Will Be Eaten By The Late Birds!!! HAHA:P

So the early birds do prepare well,eh?Remember the song, 'I rather be a sparrow than s snail" or maybe a worm. This is because a worm, whether early or late will be eaten by the birds anyway. Pity the worms. We should fight for the worms' rights as the worms help in the growth of plants by aerating the soil or earth. Without the worms our soil will be too hard for plants growth. Hurray for worms. Happy myLotting.

Thank you for praising me, I am already blushing.Talking about hard work, everyone is given 24 hours a day ,no more no less.If you are not as clever as another who works 10 hours a day , then we work 12 or 14 hours a day to compensate for our lack of ability.Others may take 3 years to complete a university degree, then we take 5 years to complete and it is still a degree. Others may say work smart but not hard, but if you cannot work smart, then work hard for hard work can replace lack of talent as you right put it.There was once in China, an old lady was sharpening a stone to turn it into a needle. A boy asked her will it be possible, she replied it will with diligence, persistence and hard work she can turn it into a needle! Thanks for your thoughts.

I'm a night owl and like to be up late, I've had alot of people tell me this. "The early bird catches the worm" so what about those of us who are late to rise? Well we are not early birds, we are not birds I guess. We are mice, and the saying I use now when someone tells me The early bird catches the worm...I say "Yes, but the second mouse gets the cheese". :P

Hi letsee77,
We know early bird catches the worms, as we told. How about early to bed early to rise make a man healthy and wise. This old wise saying holds true till today. Even
doctors say so. Researches have been conducted on the sleep patterns of early sleepers/early risers and late sleepers/ late risers and it was concluded that 'early to bed early to rise make a man healthy and wise' as the truth. Thank you for your comments.

Hi,
Your logic about the birds and worms is correct. If the worms try to escape from early birds and they can be caught by late birds. Thus worms are not going to escape in any way.

This is the hierarchy of life. Humans are the highest form of life. Birds of the air eat the worms from the ground. Birds in turn are food for humans. It is the cycle of life.

I don't think that proverb actually applies to birds as worms but rather to ppl and those that start the day early get more done while those that lay around all day don't get anything done. At least that's how it was taught to me.
