What’s the worst meal you’ve ever had?

I’ve eaten a lot of strange things so far in my life, from ostrich, snake, crickets and bugs but none of them compare to the worst meal I ever had. Back when I went to school and was forced to eat school dinners we regularly had the delight of liver, boiled cabbage, lumpy mashed potato and carrots which were still hard. It may not sound disgusting but to this day I still can’t eat cabbage and am not so keen on mash potatoes either. Just the smell of boiled cabbage makes me feel ill and rubbery liver is definitely a no no for me. What makes it worse was that we were forced to eat it all up.
So come on, what’s the worst meal you’ve had to endure?

I haven't had a particularly bad meal that stands out. School dinners were disgusting I agree, I just didn't eat them and then they said that they can't have students not eating food all week, so they allowed me to skip the pack lunch queue.
My friend's Mam made a bacon sandwich about a month ago, which I just couldn't eat ... it had loads of butter on and I hate butter.

I like bacon sandwiches, but I really hate butter or marg etc. I once bought a sandwich and took a bite and found a huge lump of butter ... I was disgusted and threw it away.

lol, a bacon sandwich with lashings of butter is my idea of food heaven, especially with a dollop of brown sauce as well.

I must admit my mums cooking can be pretty bad, especially veg which is either undercooked or turned into mush. But she does have a couple of good meals, mainly casseroles which don't require that much actual cooking, lol.

Tripeeeeeeee
Swimming in some horrid looking liquid. That was the meal I was presented with in the hospital the day after I gave birth to my son. I was supposed to produce milk on that??!!
It was so disgusting but it was all there was on the menu.
Never ever again will I taste it for as long as I live!

I tell you tripe when cooked properly can be delicious, but so many have had to suffer the old way of cooking it that I don't blame anyone for not liking it.

I remember this happened years ago my boyfriend and I went to his brothers house. The brothers girlfriend made a meal for us. I only remember the mash potatoes were cooked with scrambled eggs it was so disgusting. I couldn't eat it I wanted to puke. I also have a liver story, my mom use to make it with onions. I loved the onions couldn't stand the liver. It was disgusting. Years later my mom says I couldn't stand the liver either. I said then why would you make us eat it. She says it was suppose to be healthly for you. Now we here it really isn't good for you.

Seperately creamy mashed potato and scrambled egg sounds nice, but together really does sound quite unappealing.

I have to be quite honest. I'm sorry to hear about some of these responses. GEE, YOU POOR POOOOR THING.
I feel like my answer has no place here, but my worst meal was eggplant. It sorta burned and tasted sooooooooo bland, but what am I complaining about??? Someone had to eat mixed fish with chili thrown on the floor, oh my!

Hi busybren, I wouldn't worry if your food dislike feels insignificant as I think most people's would against the poor person who had to eat fish & chilli from the floor.
I never use to like eggplant either but then had it in an eggplant parmigano and it completely changed my mind over it, it's actually now one of my favourite meals.

hi what is loofah other than a sponge to wash with? and you know we are all complaining abut veggies that we need for health so maybe we should train ourselves to like more veggies instead of taking pills to replace the veggies we didnt eat.also a lot of people go hungry so should we complain if we have food to eat.

I am going to have to ask, what is loofah as I've never heard of it before?
As for onions, any sort, I only like them when cooked through and mixed with other foods so you don't really know they are there.

Every meal I have ever eaten at my mother in law's house. I think I would take your rubbery liver over her hard dry ham. YUCK! She is the worst cook ever, heck I think I would take the crickets over her meals. Aside from that I've never really ate anything like bugs or anything that was awful.

Yep, I've seriously eaten them and were cooked for me. But basically the whole thing was thrown into a frying pan with some oil and a little paprikka and just flash fried really quickly. They have a real savoury taste and once you get past the yuck factor of eating an insect they are very tasty.

lol, hope your mother in law isn't a member on here. Crickets are actually quite nice, they have a nice savoury taste especially when they are flash fried.

i consider all non-vegetarian meals i had in the past as the worst ones, eventhough it might have tasted good at that time. what is good for your tongue, is bad for the body.
I prefer vegetarian meals as it is soft on stomach, has more nutrients which body can absorb fully.

There was a party thrown by the institute I was studying in. There was chinese food which was new to me. So I decided to try manchurian. It was yuckkkk. One bite and I felt like spitting it out.
On another occassion some salt got accidently mixed with ice cream. It tasted weird.

A few months back we have attended a wedding, It took such a long time to finish and we were so hungry. Finally the meals was served. Oh! it is too hot with lots of peppers and so greasy. Somehow we have finished our lunch and went to wash our hands. Our hands were so greasy and no soap, or hand wash solution was there and other guests were also facing the same problem and every one was search for some degrease agents or paper tissue but none was there. Finally we were forced to clean our greasy hand with our new and good quality handkerchief. That is the worst ever meal i have ever had and cannot forget in my life

School dinners were definately not my first choice either. Boiled cabbage is not my food of choice either. But I have to say the only things I can think of that I absolutely cannot eat would be as follows:
Pork Steak
Brussel Sprouts (dirty little cabbage)
Cream style corn or peas or peas in general
Tomato Soup (just the smell of this makes me gag)
I would have to say that those are the main things that I cannot and will not ever let into my mouth again.
Thank you for your post and have a great day.

Wolfie shudders as he remembers unknowingly eating squid! A work colleague of mine asked me around for dinner to her place, she was cooking me a meal. She wasn't telling me what it was, but it certainly smelt good and I was hungry, well the way to a mans heart is through food as they say. Well when she put the plate on the table it looked delicious, so I was eager to get stuck in, well when I put a forkful in my mouth and started to chew I nearly gagged! Ewww, it tasted rubbery, I wanted to spit it out, but obviously that is not etiquette is it so I quickly swallowed. I then asked her what it was and she said squid, did I like it? Well talk about embarrassing, I then concocted a story about have a few stomach problems and I made my excuses and left the rest, I couldn't touch it after that. She never invited for dinner again, and the friendship went sour afterwards, guess I didn't stick around for dessert LOL!

i usually tolerate every common vegetables, meat, liver as long as it's well cooked and clean. flashback when i was in elementary, my grandmother brought a cooked locusts. she said it was good and i that i had to try it. i couldn't describe the smell but it's not actually smelling bad. so i tried. from the first bite i did, i couldn't move my mouth in any way. i wouldn't want the taste or any of the parts of the locust to go farther anywhere inside my mouth. yet, i wanted to spit it out. so i thought i wouldn't want to try any exotic meals ever again.

Im adventurous as you are but so far once i tried a food that is not my type, i won't order or try it again. I remember attending an indian wedding here in our country and when recetion came, all their food are made of beans, yogurt or pastries and bread. I was so excited to try thier dessert which is similar to ours sweet preserved fruits with ice and milk. But when i tasted it, it was kinda hot, too. I did not finish it because i just can't take a sweet dessert that is spicy.

I think the worst meal I ever had to endure was not because of the food but the time constraints.
When I was in the Navy, We had about 60 people in our division in boot camp and we had 5 minutes to eat, starting from the time the first person in the line sat down to eat, and getting 60 people through the line in 5 minutes, and then the 60 of us trying to eat as fast as we could...
I has one of the shortest people in my division so I was always at the back of the line, as we would always line up in a height line, tallest to shortest. The shortest people got the shortest time to eat because they got their food last.
