A very good myLot friend (Lakota) asked me to post this video testimonial from just one (Florida) hospital. I found this video to be absolutely shocking!! I have never imagined that the costs would be so high and there is nothing they can do about it. If this is only one hospital it is mind boggling to imagine what the total costs in the USA for illegal immigrant health must cost US THE TAX PAYERS! Please watch the video and let me know what you think?

I feel for these Mexican families who are suffering and want a better life. Who could blame them for this? In an ideal world where we had an abundant amount of money to cover everyone this could be done. Problem is, this isn't the case.We are not living in a perfect world. There is only so much money going into the system and if we adopt a Universal Health Care model, rationing of care is certainly a major possibility. I'm sorry, but elderly citizens who have spent their lives paying into Social Security should be taken care of first. American citizens should be taken care of first. Legal immigrants should be taken care of first. To do otherwise would be immoral. If there is not enough money in the system, and there needs to be rationing, it is the free care of illegals that needs to go. If we have enough money to cover them, that's a different story. Some would say even in this scenario it is wrong because this money could be used for something else, but I am not going to go there. I think morally we should cover as many people as we can. I don't think we should deny life saving care to anyone. Legal citizens or illegal. But we have to use our heads and do the best we can with what we have.
I don't know what to do about the illegal health care problem. I don't believe taxpayers should be paying for their care but at the same time it is immoral to deny them care. What should we do? Have special health care clinics which are funded by charitable donations by American Citizens might be an idea. But what about American citizens who don't have enough money or coverage? I am told that all American citizens are allowed health care for free in emergencies if they don't have the money to cover it. Last year I didn't have insurance or a job when an emergency incident came up and yet the hospital still sent me a bill. I told them my situation. We had to jump through hoops to get the bill covered. Yet illegals get free care everyday with very few questions asked. Which begs the next question-why should illegals get better access to health care than our own citizens? Is this moral?
This is a very complex problem that needs to be dealt with in a compassionate manner. After all, illegals are human beings too. I pray we can come up with a solution which treats all people, the young and old, citizen and non-citizens with dignity.

Hospitals are only required to stabilize a patient - then it's perfectly legal to give them a bandaid and a boot in the @$$ out the door. That's all. Most hospitals DO have charity programs - they are funded by the government, private sectors, and often times through the gracious giving of the health care givers at those facilities. Those funds, however, only go so far.. And they go VERY fast.
A five minute emergency room visit (the doctor just shined the flashlight in the eyes, told me to go home to take some benedryl, and sent me home) cost... no joke.. $400. For FIVE minutes. On another occassion, I was admitted for three days for an infection. Despite having an IV in my hand, having torn ligaments in my foot, and barely being able to lift my head, I had to give myself my OWN sponge baths (which was just a soapy washcloth, nothing to rinse with) and later discharged. My papers said I was leaving in an ambulance - Instead I was walking out the door on those torn ligaments .. No ride home. No crutches. I walked one mile home in several feet of snow. I'm certain that you've heard the stories of the people getting kicked out of the ambulances and taxi-cabs just after leaving the hospital!
When I visited the doctor some time ago, there was a woman there at the same time as me who didn't speak English. When they finally made it understood that they needed her ID and medical/insurance card... This woman produced several drivers licenses all with her photo and different names, and 11 different medical cards. I have a serious problem with this! I have a blood disorder that requires a combination of certain medications. With this combination of medications, I can live and work productively. Without the combination, I'm lucky if I can get mobile enough to clean my house. I was born and raised here, and my family has been born here since 1620. The government wants to save $800 a year by cutting out my medications from medicaid that would allow me to be a productive citizen (and then be non dependent on medicaid!), and then giving people who broke laws coming into this country and continue to break laws the care that they need.
I'm all for humanity - but there are laws and rules, and if people are going to break them, they shouldn't get rewarded in the process, pure and simple. If an American citizen used false identification to gain access to medical care, they would be fined, sued, and probably imprisoned - as well as cut off from certain government funds and programs. So why should someone who can't even tell the truth about their name and where they came from be allowed to carry on. I had a neighbor once who had 11 identities, and those are just the ones that I know of. $85 and they could "buy a new life", carried to them from Chicago via UPS... so medical care wasn't the only thing that she was managing to rip off...
Part of the solution is simple: Upon realizing that someone is likely an illegal immigrant, law should require that these facilities report these people to INS and send their butts packing. That would really help take care of the problem! That's all the compassion those who come here illegally are going to get from me.

I agree with you 100 percent. In the case of illegals who steal other people's identities, this is a completely different situation. The ones who do this are clearly criminals and should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. The fact that our government doesn't seem to care about identity theft committed by illegals is mind boggling to me. The problem is people are too concerned with hurting someone's feelings or being politically incorrect. No concern for right or wrong. If you or I do something, we're imprisoned, but if an illegal does it, your a racist if you arrest them. It's insanity! In my post, I didn't mean to suggest that this illegal activity is okay with me. I just meant that many of these people are really hurting and are just struggling to make ends meat. Many of them are innocent children who have done nothing wrong. I was just thinking about these pour souls. I think there should be stricter penalties for those who thumb their nose up at our laws. You are caught stealing someone's identity, you should be either incarcerated or shipped back to your home country. If you are a criminal you should be shipped back or face prison. Identity theft is not a small matter. How come if you or I were to commit a DUI we are arrested and face prison but an illegal does this and they are let go? People need to understand, this is not about racism. It is about discrimination. Discrimination against American citizens. We deserve justice and when illegals get special protection this is wrong. All people should be treated equally. This is only fair.

You are very welcome. It is the same video as in your email but I had to do some searching to find it in a different source.

As someone from the U.K. with free healthcare (paid from my taxes), my comment is that these charges seem grossly excessive. One of the downsides of the U.S healthcare with everything charged (a lot to insurance companies) is that there is no check to these charges. Hospitals and doctors seem to be able to charge as much as they want, or can get away with, this means that insurance cover will cost much more than should be necessary.
As for illegal immigrants, almost every country has them these days, in the U.K. they seem to be able to get preferential treatment over taxpaying citizens. On the other hand, if I travel outside the U.K. I have to have medical insurance, I see no reason why anyone travelling outside of their own country shouldn't have insurance as well, and if they don't then their country of origin should be given the bill for reasonable costs (which would be paid by their taxpayers).

I too think this is shocking !! Why do we as tax payers allow this to continue? Because we do not know it is happening !!
The illegals that are being treated have to have commited a crime before our Federal authorities will do anything about this? This literally sucks !
I am horrified but give this lady my greatest congratulations for coming forward with this info.
I hope all members take heed to this video!
thanks to lakota and also you whiteheather :)

I couldn't watch the video due to some technical error, but yes, I've read and written on illegal immigrants and health care. Its quite a serious case and unless the government does something to streamline costs and act against illegal immigration, the country's tax money will get eaten up in no time. Can you imagine what would happen if that happened?
