a little ashamed of Seattle right now

As Ive grown more environmentally aware Ive heard about things i have found out more about efforts going on all over the country to help clean up and make areas cleaner and so forth. Seattle specifically. They had a bag tax that was supposed to go into effect next month i believe that was to help discourage the use of plastic bags (you were only taxed if you didn't bring your own bag and had to use plastic). This was based off of Ireland's plastax which decreased their plastic bag consumption by 90%. Well Seattle had this kind of tax come up against voters and the people that lobbied against it, the oil companies which the material that is used to make plastic bags come from, won by influencing the greater percentage of the Seattle residence with lies indicating that such a tax would do nothing to help the environment. Which is not true because it would make people at the very least think twice about how many plastic bags were out there, and as the goal of such a tax is, get people to stop using plastic bags and start using reusable bags made of things like canvas, hemp and organic cotton. Im very disappointed in Seattle right now for not approving this tax...apparently they are more worried about the extra .20 cents a bag they would be spending then the fact that plastic is inherently harmful to the environment and to themselves. Hope the people that voted against it enjoy their tap water...cause they could very well be drinking little bits to of the plastic from their grocery bags that made it into their water supply.
