Thought I'd Share This Info For You Who Are Pet Owners

I'm passing this info to my fellow pet lovers as a just in case any of you are suddenly facing a major health issue with your pet and need to take your "baby" to a vet. As you know, veterinary care can be damn expensive, sometimes even more than health care for humans.
You see, I was thinking of a friend of mine whois here at MyLot and the recent problem she had with her furbaby who is now under veterinary care and of course could be rather costly but she's willing to just about anything to help her "baby"
Then I emailed my one pet rescuer friend of mine, Amy, and told her a bit of the story of my MyLot friend...Amy has her mind occupied on something else right now (a major health issue)---but she said to me, why not use your computer savvy skills and look things up as there are organizations that can financially help people out that have sudden, catastrophic and expensive vet bills.
So low and below did a search and yes there ARE a lot of places one can contact---never knew this! And this is something for even me to keep in mind, as a just in case.
(WARNING: NOT referral links but to organizations to help pet owners with vet bills)

http://www.pgaa.com/financialaid.html
The one organization, Wish Upon A Hero not only can help people with vet bills, but people can "make a wish" and find a "hero" that may help them out for any financial need.
I was really surprised that there were such organizations and now glad to know their existence just in heaven forbid I may need some financial help.
Did you know such organizations existed?

do you mind if i repost these links to my blog?
i have a bunch of listings for cats,but i hadn't seen these..
i found this one also that helps with spay/neuter costs
(not a referal link)http://neuterspay.org/
these are good to know.
my calico is needing foot surgery for "superclaws" (she is polydactyl and they don't grow right) and they want $600!

thankies-i thought i would ask first:)
yea-see,it started as the two she actually has the problem with..now the vet insists 3 others are altered "just in case"..which i think is unnecessary as it's only the two.
i trim them as much as possible, but she's a handful about it.i need a "catbag" with her.
but see,the vet just rebuilt/expanded the facility..so..*cough*high bill*cough*
only vet in town,unfortunetly.

Of course you can repost those links to your blog. I had a cat with extra front toes also...I sort of did my own "surgery" on him by carefully clipping the one large claw that would embed in one of his pads if I didn't clip...he did fine by my "surgery"--LOL (crap they're asking $600???)

I didn't know these places existed either. Thank you so much for sharing this. I am going to check these out and bookmark them. We have two vet bills now that we are trying to pay on. One for when we took our Jasper to get checked because he was sick and another for when we had to get our Cloe's back leg amputated. Thank you so much! :)

Jasper is doing great! He had heart worm but was given medicine for it and he is doing fine now. Yeah, Cloe has adjusted well to three legs. She doesn't even act like she only has three legs. She is just as feisty as ever.
Yes, doing an article is a great idea. You should get a lot of page views and will be helping a lot of people. :)

I don't think anything like that exists here
but I'll try find out if I need it.
since my cat is indoor she is hardly sick or injured
we are always careful with what she eats and what she steps on
I'm thinking to get pet insurance if there is affordable one
but that won't happen until next year if anything

I'm saving this email post so as not to lose these links - great information, thank you so very much. I don't have a pet at the time, unless you count my lone fish PJ - more of a friend than a pet. I do however plan to someday in the future have at least a dog and cat again. Also going to pass on to others I know who are having major financial problems with pets.

Oh you should certainly do it for AC, I'm getting bored with 'parks' in the area so going to start breaking them up with some 'camping' stories :) ADD :( do have some more parks to do though and got a connection yesterday on twitter to get the inside scoop on a little bitty park that haven't been able to find any info on but have been there hundreds of times :)

I never even gave it a thought that there were organizations out there to help people in need when it came to their furbabies. Thanks to your computer savvy and your friend who suggested it, I just might get the extra help I need at this time. I'm hanging on to your email for future reference in case someone else I know tells me they are in need of help. Like you, I would love to be in a position to help someone's "wish" come true.

Hi pye! I am so happy to hear this news! This is so important
to me, especially right now. My cat Luna hasn't been feeling
well and isn't eating normally since last week when he was
throwing up really badly for a day or so. He hasn't been
eating his canned food at all or any other people food that
he used to eat and I am very concerned. I am thinking about
taking him to the vet and am very scared that if it is
something serious that I won't be able to afford to pay for
it and I would do anything for my little boy no matter what
it costs, but I am on a fixed income and am afraid what might
be wrong with him. I am hoping that it isn't anything serious,
but I have had cats who were extremely sick before and it
cost me hundreds of dollars and more to care for them. It is
always nice to know that there are people out there that might
help if it is something really serious. I would pay anything
for my baby, but if god forbid I couldn't it is nice to know
that maybe someone out there might be able to help me. I had
no idea that such organizations existed at all! Thank you so
much for this very valuable information. I am still hoping that
I will never ever need to use it!

Aww--sorry to hear about Luna..well as you know I'm on a fixed income too, and I'm glad to know such organizations like this exist too as I would need "help" if heaven forbid something happened to my two "babies"
as far as Luna not eating...many times if all else fails what cats will eat will be strained meat baby food..it's expensive I know, but many times if a cat doesn't eat his/her regular cat food or people treats they will eat baby food. First put some on a plate and see if he eats it on his own...if not you could give him the baby food and force fed him if necessary...water down the baby food with a smidgen of milk...then using a medicine dropper type thing suck up some of the baby food mixture then gently "force feed"--I've had to do this in the past myself whenever my kitties were sick
Another great combo is to combine some of the baby food, a little milk and an egg yolk for extra protein

{{Pye}} what wonderful links and resources You've provided;
Since being on Disability these past 10+ years I've often fretted and worried
at how I'd be able to pay some huge vet bill, (when that time comes) and for me
and my babies it will circle around again soon ...now this will help ease
some of my pet stress I hope;
I hope your friends crisis eases up for them with their pet too, our furbabies
are our lives and we depend on them as they depend on us;
I've bookmarked them all, thanks again so much for the links, you do a great
service for so many of us here and on other sites too;
{{love & hugs }} to you and give some hugs to your kitty's...

Yes being on benefits suck as one just plain doesn't have the funds for veterinary costs...especially any large bills...I'm glad I came across these links myself as a "just in case"---and I'm glad my pet rescuer friend suggested my searching for such links

Oh Pye that's wonderful!!! Lucky, my aging German Shepard had a series of aliments for a time. Honestly she has tumors but she's comfortable. I know vet bills do add, that is not the case here, but her perscriptions are out of this world!
I'm glad there are organizations out there that helps those with loved ones in the animal world. The find a hero is a wonderful way for others to give support where needed too.
Good find gurl!

thak you for these links Pyewacket. although we do ha a P.A.W organization here that helps animals. this information can help other animals on thes streets. there are too many stray cats here in my country that they are vulnerable to vehicles or people who hate animals

I did not realize this, but I am not surprised. I am a Pollyanna type person, who believes that the majority of people are kind and generous and willing to help. For many people the affection of their pets is the only thing that keeps them going. I love the fact that you researched this for us, though. It is just another thing that helps me believe that there are good people out there if we know where to look. You are one of those good people as well, for spending your time this way.

Thanks for that info. I'm supposing they're just for pets in the states?
Here in Canada we have the Farley Foundation (named after the dog in the comic strip For Better or For Worse). My friend has availed herself of it before but the last time she needed it she was told they were out of funding. I don't know if they will get more funding, but it's something to check out.

This is such wonderful information Pye and thank you so much for posting this!! I knew there was help out there but didn't have a clue as to where to find it. When my cat Bobo got hit by a car it cost us over $600. to get him back to himself again. Then when Gracie got sick, it cost us $700. and she still passed on. I mean, at least we knew what was wrong with her but deg gone! Does it really have to cost so much? Thanks so much for the information!!

I never knew there were any such organizations around. I've been out of work forever and I'm always thinking of Kash because she turned "17" this year and my thoughts are always "What if" she gets sick. She's been healthy so far and I Thank the Gods for that. My credit cards are depleted too. This is great news and Thanks so much again. I'm sure many people will be happy to hear this, I know I am.

Hi pye,
That is just wonderful and hope more people get to know about it and can help them, we do have a PDSA here for those who cannot afford a vet bill, they can get their pets treatment for free but they do ask for a little donation, also RSPCA here pays for half the vet bill for you too.
Bright Blessings.

Thanks for the links Pye. I am facing more vet bills at the moment because one of my cats has just gotten over FLUTD but he is still unwell and throws up every day. I am relieved to know that he doesn’t have cancer thanks to a $175 blood test. He threw up again tonight so I’ll be at the vets again tomorrow and I am praying the cost won’t be too high because we are broke at present.
I wonder if there are such places in Australia like the ones you have listed for us...Must look into it...
Thanks again and wish me and my ‘furbaby’ luck!

I found one place the Australia RSPCA--they might have links for financial help for pets

Maybe you could contact them and ask

Thanks for the info. We went back to the vets today and he is now on steroid medication to rule Inflammatory Bowel Disease. This one cost $59 so it wasn't as expensive. I will be checking out the link and the RSPCA, they are just around the corner from our house actually.
Here's hoping we can curb the vomiting!
