Is my dog spoiled or does Dog Food Taste Bad?

I've had to change her dog food a few times because of her hair lost. The new food (from the exclusive pet store) I bought her is double the price. She looks at me with disappointment because she liked the Purina Beneful with salmon (from grocery store) I last bought her. Now she's like on a FOOD STRIKE! She hasn't eaten in two days and I am sure she'll it soon, she has no choice or she'll die of starvation and I'm not giving up on this food yet because it is higher in omega oils and that should help her with the hair lost.

Why not buy a small bag of her favorite and just add a bit until she gets use to the new stuff. Or add a small amount of canned dog food and a little water. This is what I do for my picky dog. Just about a heaping spoon full mixed in the water then add to the dry food. Good Luck

Just remember it's not a competition, dog verses man. Dogs don't care who wins they just want something that smells good to eat, they usually don't care much about the taste, not like cats do. Hang in there we all know you care.

Sometimes they can be very picky..lol..I think that she will eat it eventually. Maybe you could mix it with a little something just to get her started.

Hi, GypsyDade! I had a dog that did this. I finally went to websites of dog food makers and asked for sample, which most did send. After she'd stuck her nose up and walked away from several, she did find one she liked, and another she tolerated. To get her to eat any others, I had to add some of whatever was for people's dinner! Yep! She was spoiled from the day of her birth until she passed away!

I just went to the websites of all the brands I could find. You could probably get samples at places like Petsmart, although I'm not sure. Try a search engine, and look up free dog food samples. Good luck!

They have they quirks about them, I guess they are like us, they like to be pampered if they can get it. By the way do you remember what that website for samples was?

I've had a couple different Vets tell me to animals Food is number 1 priority! I believe it, if you give a dog table scraps it's the biggest mistake one can make! LOL! Switching food is tough, my vet recommended to mix them together and slowly change it to the new one I had to do this a couple times and this seemed to work for me. Good luck in your test of wills! tdemex

My dog did this too. Just do not feed her anything except the dog food you want her to eat. She will eat it when she gets hungry enough.

I think that's the way I'm going to treat this, I think she's just a little under the weather now. I tell myself, it's not the food, the taste of the food, she's eaten horse patties everytime we go by the field...yuk...but i hear it's good for them (imaging that?)

LOL, the title it's very funny. Same about the content...well, even if it's not my bussiness ( I don't have any pets) I guess if she will continue to be unhappy, you'll have no choice but to please her. After all, she is your sweetie.

It can be hard to find a food that a dog likes but when you do you should stick with it. Just because a food is highly priced does not mean it is the best food. Our dog will not eat many kinds of dog food but we found that he loves the dog meat roll from the supermarket and has been eating it for a year now. We also put out dry food for him to top up on. He loved the food so much he would eat too much and get fat so I had to reduce the diet. Yet if we give him tin dog food no matter how expensive he will not touch it. If she like the Purina food why did you change? I would go back to it. As for the hair loss problem have you spoken to a vet about it? It may have nothing to do with her food at all and probably doesn't.

I am not sure which higher price food you bought but as a rule of thumb I have always been told if a dog don't eat something then you should not. Higher the price is not always better and as for taste it must not be good or she would be eatting it for sure. If she liked beneful then why stop? If she is healthy and likes her food then you just through her system out of whack. I feed dog food but all of my dogs eat what I eat and they are healthy and active and look really good. Most of all they are happy after all that is what we all want for our pets/babies.

The higher priced dog food is called Natural Choice, imagine that! I feel like I got sucked. And I beleive you, if the dog won't eat it, then I also figured it knows best...they do live on their primal instinct. I bet they smell the laboratory made additives in it. Well Purina wins, according to Abby
