Yesterday, I received in my email inbox something about me, winning 1 million US dollars. It says that the email message is from Microsoft and that I won in their annual ms-world lottery (mega jackpot lotto programme)conducted last May 5, 2009. They are asking me to contact their claim agent in order to transfer the fund. I am very skeptic about this email message and I want to ask help from you, fellow lotters. I am attaching the Microsoft Word document that they have attached to their email message. Please tell me what I should do. Also, if you have experienced this kind of instance. Thank you in advance.

Hi maroseqf, Have you ever but some lottery or some tickets from them? And I am sure you didn't. How on earth you can won something that you never enter or submit any ticket or form? That is SCAM. And once you call that number, they will ask you to bank in some money for some administration purpose. If you do that, you will enter their trap. They will keep asking money from you until you have nothing left. So, just deleted that email and forget about it. Don't be so greedy or you will be more poorer then you are now. Believe me on this. Happy mylotting and have a nice day.

Hi friend, till now i got 16 times that type of mails. Those are common now a days those are not real mails. Hello friend one thing u have to think and a question to you also. When you are not involving in any of the matter related to microsoft or some X's company then how are you going to achieve that money. If you work hard at any circumstances then you will achieve some good or bad that you can c. But without that hardwork God also cannot help us.So, please neglect those spam mails or that type of mails.Sometimes, these can be a virus also. Do you consider sooooo lucky to get 1 million US $ just like that???? If you had really won, you would be first informed by the Press people, who would follow you like crazy and not these spam and scam mails. Just ignore the email and carry on your work.

There are a lot of online scams being created right now, some refer to a European lottery, a Nigerian national or someone else. The best thing to do is to simply think about it, how come you won something if you didn't even participate on one. I myself got a ton of those, you could simply ignore it or if it really does make sense, surf the net and look if others got something the same as you, if there is, then it very much likely to be a scam..

Take point on what "markrevis" said, even though mail servers have built-in virus scanners, there is still a chance that some nasty malicious progs or scripts that will pass through the filter and wreak havoc if you download them to yours.

That is a scam. Just delete it. They will get you into trouble with having you cash bad checks or money orders for them for you to get your money. I get these emails all of the time too.

Where is the document attached as you have told?I think this is also a scam mail in the name of microsoft, this time.If you have won really why should they ask you to contact some claim agent. This is becoming quite common in the internet and the good thing for you is to ignore the mail.Cheers!

Do not respond to this! IT is a scheme to get your bank account information so they can steal from you! Microsoft does not run lotteries - its a common scheme that has been in use for years, probably ever since the internet really got going. Forward this message to the authorities (though there is probably nothing they can do about it because no doubt whoever sent it covered his tracks) but this person wants to get your bank account information- they will say they will send you money but need details of your bank account, then rob you blind. Do not respond!

Hello opalina! I never thought that people use names such as Microsoft to fool others. That is really bad. Thanks for the response.

This is a scam and that is more than 100% certain. They would never give anyone random 1 million dollars for doing nothing, nor taking part in nothing. This is just a fraud, to get your contact information, for further e-mail spam or even identify theft. Under no circumstances, do follow what they want. Nor reply to them.

I have also received such kind of spam email claiming from Microsoft lottery department, but as you might be interested to know Microsoft has never had any department like that in first place in their organization. If they want to reward their users they post it on their website called Microsoft Connect or any other Microsoft tech blogs but never send any document that too in word format rather than they can send postal mail if the case is genuine. So please stay away from all these kind of mails and mark them as spam as soon as you get them in your mail inbox.

Have you ever seen a genuine email from Microsoft before? Such as emails regarding Their new products etc e.g. telling you about the new MS office, new media player, new IE, windows live programs etc. Those are the emails from Microsoft. As for as I know, Microsoft never conducted such programme. Those emails are from some assole trying to do grab money from innocent people. DON'T GET FOOLED!

This time around the fake is too good to ignore, but still wait till the contact you again and give their phone number so you can talk, or just ignore it, nothing is free in this world, even to win lottery you have to buy the ticket....

Sounds like one of those typical online scams that people come up with. Don't give out your bank account info. If you truly won a huge amount of info from Microsoft or anyplace else, you would have to provide ID and probably several other things before you would get your prize. Also you probably would be given a check, there probably wouldn't be much need to give out your bank info.

Don't ever try to contact them. This is a fake mail. I also received this kind of mail many times. If you contact them they will ask you to pay them some money as transaction fees etc and fool you.
