Did you know kids who grow up in an organized and calm home are more likely to have good early reading skills at age 5 or 6. This study was done at the Ohio State University and Teachers college, also at Columbia University. Some good tips to promote good reading habits and abilities. Set mealtimes and bedtimes, make clear chore charts, use a family calendar, and keep th TV off during mealtimes.

My granddaughter who is a little over two is able to understand a few letters. My son and daughter-in-law keep off the Tv and read a lot to her, so it helps. For myself, when our boys were small we joined an early reader book club (I do not have the name right now) and they learned some of the words that way. Now both or them are voracious readers. As for my husband and me, my husband cannot hold a book so either I have to read to him or he uses an ipod and me, if the print is small, I reach for my reading glasses.
Never was into family calender and we did not keep the tv off at mealtimes, but our boys went out a lot, and they learned how to read even with the distraction.
And when I grew up, there was no such thing as Tv. so that could count a lot.

My grandson is right in the age to develop his reading habit. Could you kindly share more detailed information, or website, so that his parents could better help in an organized manner. Thanks in advance.

I am a mother of five children. My oldest being 10 and my youngest is a set of 21 month old twins. All of my children are great readers and my twins are starting out great. I just picked up books from a place called the Dollar Tree. I even picked them up from local dollar stores. We also found websites to print out coloring pages that made reading fun. We started with colors and we added music to our learning. I hope some of this helps you with all this. If you need more help you can send me a private message and i can help you.
