i was watching the news and they showed a tape of a teacher hitting a special needs child and she blames it on stress and everyone else saying the child hit her but the thing is he can't talk he is artistic wrather the child hit her first or not she had no right putting her hands on a child. what is your view on this.

I hold to the view that any living being has the right to defend themselves. So, if the child was rather violent and he hit her first and went after her, then I feel the woman had the right to defend herself.
HOWEVER, that does not mean the woman can blame her stress as the reason why she hit a special needs child. So what, I'm stressed but I don't go around smacking around children at work. There are plenty of other ways to destress without harming a kid. Obviously that woman is NOT meant to be a teacher and should be removed immediately.

Wow! I have not heard this story, but it is awful. I work with special needs children (including autistic kids), so I know how stressful it can be. I too have been hit, bit, etc. by the kids. When this happens, you need to just walk away for a bit to cool down. Regardless of how upset you are, you need to remember that you are dealing with a child who most likely does not understand what he/she is doing, or cannot control it. It is never ok to hit a child.

Oh I guess this teacher doesn't deserve to be placed in a special school since her patience is a bit short. One of the qualities that these teachers should posses is patience. This is one of the values one must muster when in this kind of schools since the children there are not the usual kids where they can easily discipline them accordingly.

Wow that is sad. She must have been pretty stressed out. I have worked with a few autistic kids in daycare and I know how badly they can try your patience. If he was hitting her maybe her hitting him was just a reaction. I'm sure she feels bad. I don't think it was right to hit a child, but unless she has a history of doing something like that then maybe we shouldn't judge. I'm sure being a teacher is very stressful. Think about it, if someone is hitting you, or smacking at you, your instinct would be to defend yourself.

I have taught in a special needs class room and had a child that would hit, bite, scratch, and even pull your hair. I would have never thought of hitting that child. The other teachers there never raised a hand to that child. I can't believe that. It would upset me if it were my child and I wouldn't stop until that teacher was fired.

This is another reason all classrooms should have video cmaeras Itis too difficult to get the facts when you have a teacher vs an aggressive or disabled child Teacher who strike students need to go to jail. students who strike a tacher need to see a judge
