It would only be wrong if the person posting it was doing so for the wrong reasons or under false circumstances....
I know you and I know why you did so and you absolutely did the right thing by posting the donation button....the internet is a wonderful tool that puts us in contact with people we would otherwise never had the opportunity to encounter....and it should definately be use to further your goals and enhance your life....
We ALL need a little help from time to time and if you dont ask how will people know you need it?
There will be those that belittle you and give you a hard time because you posted it but you should simply ignore them because they dont know you or understand what you are dealing with!

I don't see anything wrong with having a donation button on a blog as long as it's legitamate - I have seen people asking for donations that were really just for the blog or web site.

I thought that too but I don't want anyone to see mine and say oh she is lying, because it is so hard to trust people these days. I really don't expect to get any donations because I know everyone is struggling but I am running out of time and really need the money so I figured why not.

No I don't. In fact, I have done it. It only gets sketchy when you don't actually prove you're spending it on what the donations were intended for. I think it's a good way for people to raise money because the Internet is so vast.

Yes this is a good point. What did oyu use your donations for? I would have no problem with showing proofs, but no one has donated to me so I haven't had the chance to do that.

I know a few people who have donations on their blog. Some for costs of their websites, hosting things of that nature. Oher need it for this or that and explain why they need it.

The donation button i put at my website without any explanation. The reason i put this button because some of the visitor email to me and thanks for the information / sample i provide and wish to send me some money. Therefore, i just simply put one donate button at my website. Not asking for money but just fulfill the visitor requirement.

I don't think it is wrong, but I wouldn't count to much on it. THese days when the scammers are on every single corner in the world, every freeway exit ramp and outside every store... a donation button has gotten wrapped up with a bad reputation. How does someone know (for sake of conversation) that you are honest and the reason for the donation is as you say? How do we know that you are only asking for "donations" cause you spend all your other money foolishly? How do we know that you even have a disabled child? How do we know you aren't a scam?
NO disrespect intended or anything like that, but I say that only as a result of the recent years of people standing on the freeway exit ramps and road entries... where they have a captive audience... holding signs saying "homeless, need food" or "War Vet, will work for food" and even have their children dressed filthy sitting there...things like that. Few years ago here in California that whole scam was busted wide open... and it was found out that most of those holding signs, made a really nice sized "income" and lived in nice homes and had nice things.. their "job" was just to stand there looking poor and play on good peoples feelings for free money. Most people won't take a stranger to their home and say, "okay, clean the attic or clean the yard" and then "pay" them with a meal... so they hand them a couple bucks while they are waiting for the light to change because the "person" is standing right there at their window. It was revealed that these people made a very nice little "under the table" income and didn't have to pay taxes on it either.
SO because of that, I don't donate anywhere I don't see a physical "company" or know the shelter or whatever you want to call it. I don't put even a dime in the boxes of those sitting in front of the stores while they grab the people coming out of the store and say "donate to the homeless" or "Help this or that". Few years back this too was revealed as a scam....and because it is public property, the stores post a sign that they do not approve of solicitors (something to that respect). For all I know.. they are only doing that to help themselves... especially when they are sitting there with their cell phones and palm games with nice jewelery on their hands. Granted, they could be volunteers, but since I don't know the details... sorry, I'll take my donation to the local women's shelter or animal shelter so I know i am helping support a good cause and not helping support a scammer.
Just my feelings about it.. no offense intended....give it a try.. can't hurt!

I can understand where you are coming from. And I take no offense because I am not a scammer, and if you would like you can look threw ALL my discussions from the last 3 years I have been on this site and you will find I do indeed have a daughter who has epilepsy, cerebral palsy, developmental delay and only one kidney due to multi- cystic kidney disease, sorry for my spelling. She just had a seizure last night.
I have those same guys standing at the corner of my free ways as well. One day i even seen one guy get into a nice car and rive off after his "shift". It is sad that people choose to scam, while people like me and many others I know can't get the help they need because of it.

Really, I believe you...I just have been around so much scamming in so many ways... I am leary of it all, all the time. I was just pointing out possibliities. Unfortunately us honest ones have to pay the price for the scammers. If you decide to do the donation button, I wish you luck and hope only good things for you and your daughter.

I think that if you genuinely need the money for something worthy (such as a child's disability) then there is nothing wrong with adding a donation button. I see lots of blogs that ask for donations just to cover hosting fees or whatever and to me that's not as worthy as something like what you're using it for. So I don't think it's wrong at all.

I have seen many like that too. I just recently put mine up because I really need the money,I haven't gotten any donations yet but I guess at least I know that it is not a bad thing to do.

Not wrong at all, no matter what the reason the button is there, however do not lie about why the button exists, if nothing else that would earn you respect. If people read your blog they may e able to gauge if you are trustworthy, and thus choose to donate or not.

This is true. I placed the button on my blog months ago just to have so if anyone wanted to help out a disabled child they could. Now I need the money badly.

I think as long as your purpose to ask for donation is reasonable, then it is alright to ask. Steve Pavlina is a top blogger and making good money, but still asking for donation.
I myself asked for donation through a blog post and not through a button. This was when my wife and daughter suffered from Dengue fever, and I know that I will spend a lot of money.
Fortunately, I got a lot of support especially from fellow Filipino bloggers.
Thanks!

Yes I added the donation button a while ago and have gotten no donations at all. I was hoping for at least a dollar or something. I do hope your family is ok now? What is Dengue fever? I live in the states so I am not familuar with it.

I think it is okay. It's the blogger's choice. I might, my blog is educational.
