I third the motion, they are both. Most of them are black and white, but some are white and black. They would even look the same on color blind persons.

I think no matter whether zebras are white or black, the fact is they have both colours. If we say zebras are white, then there's black added to them. Then if we say zebras are black, then there's white added to them. No matter which one is true, black or white, the fact is such colouring make them unique. Actually I think what you meant, what is the background coulour of the zebra, black or white. If this is what you meant, then its hard to tell, but with regards to your question, they are both, black and white. hehe.
