That could be a little of both. A true friend will help with not only the immediate need [a hand up] but would also try to find ways for you to be able to help yourself after the fact [help along]. Realize they may only be able to help with one or the other of your needs. Down on the farm I grew up on they always said that if you showed up on someone's door at 2 in the morning with a body, a true friend would just grab a shovel and help you dig the hole. ;-)

i think its thje p[erson who gives you a hand to get up. figuratively speaking i think a hand can be an advice,an inspiration or push. so if i have a friend like that then i would be successful in all i need to achieve. and that would be a friend for life!

that is up to you on which is the one you choose to be your friend.maybe they both of your friends.they just try to help in different ways.whichever way they show it, they are still you friend, but that is also up to you which of the two you want to be your friend more.
