no drinks in the library, not even a bottle of water?

I was recently in a library with my sister and she told me that she ever got told off to put her bottle of water away because it is strictly no drinks in the library. I found that really silly. How would you expect those students that stay really long inside the library not to drink water? I mean, it would be really ridiculous if you have to go outside the library everytime you want to drink water. What do you guys think about this?

I'm always breaking the rules lol. Everytime I go to the library I always break food and a drink, be it water or something else. Hey I'm not going to starve!

I agree! and neither would I go thirsty! They have water fountains in the library, so what's the difference in bringing your own?

I definitely think water should be permitted in libraries, even if there is the off-chance that someone spills it all over the books. I suppose what they're concerned the most is food being dropped in the building and getting a pest problem, and the same with soft drink being spilled on books. Also...if you've ever opened a book to find random food remnants in there, you know exactly how disgusting it is.

I've always bought a bottle of water when I go to the library to study. Maybe my librarian was just really nice. When I eat my lunch though, I would go outside and it's hassle to pack my bag and go outside to eat but I'm glad to have a quiet place to study even if they don't allow food instead

that is ok for me because they not let people/students eat or drink or bring food inside the library or while reading books because there is always the risk that the food and the drink will spill.the dirty fingers of students from eating then holding the book can ruin the pages of the book.it will just make the page of the paper to break down and be destroyed very very easily.so to be safe, no food and drink is allowed inside the library even if they not eat or drink it inside. maybe they can put a area inside the library.a corner maybe or a lobby/lounge where there is a water cooler and some chairs.so readers can go there to take their drinks but they should not bring the books that they are reading to that area.

Dear ylrevhan.. I think this rule is understandable. if we want some food or drink, we can go outside and find it for a while. After that, we can back to the library to do our activities, the book can wait still... We are not in theater to watch movie.. happy myLot

Don't libraries have water fountains? so what's the big deal? I think they think the water will multiple the books and then they'll attack...lol But seriously, I'm with you...water is harmless, but other drinks (i.e. sodas, fruit pops, etc.) can do more damage because of the color. I may be totally wrong about this.
