A pregnant woman goes through massive hormonal changes inside her body since the processes are altered as your body is preparing for the growth of a child inside your womb. The hormonal changes results to various symptoms of pregnancy, with food cravings just one of them. IN some cases, these hormonal changes could also cause constant mood swings and other physical manifestations.

Hi janebeth, Although, I have never had the experience I know pregnant women goes through cracvings, it whats their body telling them that they need it, your father should have got loads of supplies for your mother's cravings as it was his faul for getting your mother in that condition. Your mother couldn't help her cravings. Tamara

well.obviously that's the baby need foods and mother need new food to carry the baby and herself so those pregnants always eat more than others.and more than the time when they have yet to have pregnant.that's acceptable one pregnant eat more food but here some pregnant really eat too much and that would be an extra load to them also.

Yes because they have two mouths and two stomuchs to feed. ALso they know that during pregnancy men dont say no to their wishes. So want to maximise the situation. Poor hubby will repent his desire to become a father haha

Wow, your friend is lucky she's craving such healthy things. Women will often crave foods that have the nutrients that they are missing, because they need it for the pregnancy. Perhaps your friend needs Vitamin C and that's why she's craving so much fruit? More information here: http://www.womenshealthcaretopics.com/preg_food_cravings.htm

I think thats normal for a pregnant woman, since they need nutritous food, yes I experienced such I want a fruit that is not in season and I cried a lot when my husband did not find any. But I think its natural.

It's because the needs of your body changes. What I'm trying to say is that a new life is growing in side the womb. The mother needs more foods and different cravings always surface...I think it's natural.

i think they need certain nutrients that they dont realize and the weird food they want have it in them but they dont put two and two together when its the baby needing something to help its development..

Pregnancy - it is good right?
As per what I have learned: Pregnant women are less hungry first, and hungry near to the end of pregnancy. I am not a very learned man or a doctor, but I can tell you what I have learned in my school. Pregnant women usually feel less hungry because at the beginning of pregnancy, implantation and various processes like blastocyst formation takes place in the uterus And I guess that makes changes in what we call 'homeostasis' of the body. Don't get deep into biological terms. In simple words, there is disturbance in the body, so she is not hungry. Now let's take some time after the embryo formation. At this time, blood vessels of baby and mom fuses together, there is an exchange of glucose molecules in mothers blood because the baby's blood steals it from her. If there is a drop of glucose level below 180mmol/l of blood(I guess that's the correct value), hypothalamus detects it and induces hunger in any human being. In a pregnant woman glucose tends to fall and there's always hunger. I hope this is the information you wanted. Regards, Ajith.

Yes,friends. When a woman pregnant, the daily intake of adequate quality protein, vitamins, minerals, trace elements and amount of fat, these nutrients are the material basis of fetal growth and development,high-quality protein is easily digested and absorbed protein, such as chicken, duck, fish, lean meat, shrimp, eggs, tofu, soy products, etc.in order vitamin A,D,C,B-based,fresh vegetables and fruits rich in vitamins, minerals and trace elements, including calcium, iron, phosphorus, zinc, iodine is most important, calcium, phosphorus and fetal bone and teeth formation and development, iron on hematopoietic function, zinc, iodine for mental development and prevention of fetal malformation have a direct relationship between diet, milk, eggs, bones Tang, animal liver, dried small shrimps, aquatic products, nuts,Ha ha.Because it is two people to absorb nutrients,so quick to do her mother's female talent to eat more than ah..

i think there are mainly two reasons;physical body and subconscious 1.pregnant woman need food not only for herself but also her baby,so she need more energy than normal people. 2.in her mind ,certain voice tell her:"if you wanna your baby grow strong and healthy,eat....." so........

I just had a baby 6 months ago and during my pregnancy all I wanted was garlic bread and cheesecake but I have no idea why. According to one of my former professors the body craves foods that contain nutrients that it needs. So that might be the reason that pregnant women crave certain foods

I have noticed this when my wife was pregnant. She seems to like certain foods similar to your friend. I think pregnant women usually crave for more food than usual simply because they have a baby that is dependent on them for nourishment. So obviously they tend to eat more than the usual food intake.

i am not sure what causes such things probably because the baby is eating some of the food that the mother is eating LOL ! i think the baby deserve most of the nutrients and that is why doctors often prescribe foods that will help the child developed mentally and physically

Its weird that different women crave different foods when they are pregnant. I wonder if its just her tastes changes or the growing baby inside wants to eat that food. I don't remember any of my pregnant relatives craving for weird foods.
