When is the best time to do the exam?Examine your breasts at the same time each month. The best time is usually a few days after your period, when your breasts are least likely to be tender or swollen. If you no longer menstruate, pick a day that you can remember easily, like the first of the month.

Many of the clients I had seen when I was a mastectomy fitter said that they found the lump before their doctor or mammography. You should make it a habit to perform this yourself.

I know I should, but I never do it. I'm glad you posted this, as it is something all women should do.

It is very importnat to make sure that you do a self exam monthly. And I do mine the same date each month. That way I don't forget. Sometimes I think women forget how important it is to do a self exan each and every month. Thanks for putting a visual reminder out there.

I´m at a high risk factor as far as cancer is concerned and therefore do this autoexam every month. I check under my arms for lumps as well.
Good discussion topic. Thanks for all the useful information.

Thank you for reminding us to take the time to care for ourselves. It is amazing how many lives have been saved by doing self exams.
