I wonde you are from which part of India. I belong to south India, Kerala. When I look at the people of my parents generation, I can see age differences from 5-8 between the bride and the groom. That happened becauase girls got married at the age of 18 or 19 and the parents arranged their marriages with a guy who already had good job or settled with a business. So, the guy's age went up. It was not very common even then. It is reduced to 2-3 now.

This is seriously a very good question and even I dont know the proper reason behind this. Some says that Ladies get maturity sooner than guys and that is why the age difference is. But i really cannot agree upon this answer as this sounds a little bit ridiculous to me. But there must be definitely a strong scientific reason behind this as this is a tradition that is being followed since the civilization dawned in India. In some marriages that dates back to 1940's-50's, the age difference between Husband and wife used to be more that 12 years and really that is a very big age gap. Elders say that those kind of Age gap marriages are purposely meant. But they are unable to give me a proper answer for that. Hence still that kind of doubt is unresolved in me. Thanks for starting this discussion and have a great day ahead. Happy Mylotting. Cheers:-)

LOTS of people and places have marriages where there are age gaps (and sometimes MUCH larger ones involved). I don't feel that there is ANY actual scientific reason behind age differences in ANY marriage... If there's a trend, I would tend to say that it's more cultural, and may even be more commonly so in arranged marriages.

I think that with the local living environment! Each country's life, education, beliefs are the same!Has led to a different way of thinking.I think that the only such explanation!
