Getting Huge FAST!

Won't be long now - My first attempt at growing watermelons in my garden here in Minnesota. This is getting nicely shaped and ripening quickly as well.

Just 5 days ago I posted a discussion about my first try at growing watermelons in my Minnesdota garden. One was the size of a tennis ball. Now just 5 days later this is what it looks like. These things sure grow quickly once they start to form it seems. Won't be too long I'll have some homegrown watermelon on the table etc. Have you ever had a homegrown watermelon before? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Yes I have had homegrown watermelon right from the watermelon patch. My daddy grew some before and when we were there for a visit he went and picked one for all of us to eat. He was so proud of them and it was so sweet and very good.

Oh I am sorry but I have no idea and my dad is no longer alive so I can't ask him nor my mother either. My mother's dad used to grow them in huge fields. My mother was a good one for picking a good ripe, sweet watermelon.

Hey Grandpa Bob! It is already the size of the "personal size" watermelons that they sell here in the grocery stores! That is going to be an amazing melon in a few more days! I can't wait to see it when it's full grown! I wish I could be the one tasting it! My mouth is watering already! I have never tasted a home grown water melon! I can't believe you never tried growing them before since you grow just about everything else so perfect! How about canteloupes? Maybe next season?

My wife laughs so hard as I am really excited about these watermelons. I keep dragging her out back to look how they've grown each day. Tried canteloups once and they newver grew. Maybe next year I will again. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

That is wonderful to hear. I love fresh watermelon from a garden. We have never grown them ourselves but we do get them from farmers in our area. We do not have the ground to grow them on.

WAY back in the early 1960's we planted some watermelon seeds and got vines but no melons.

I grew watermelons the last year I was married... my husband was helping me with the gardening and accidentally cut the vine to the largest melon. It wasn't ripe yet. And they don't ripen off the vine like say a tomato or peach might. The rest of the melons didn't amount to much by the end of the summer. So no, I haven't.

We've grown watermelon before and they would get big and really pretty, and when you cut into it, they would be as red as can be, but they wouldn't have any taste, not sweet at all. I don't know what we did wrong, we tried several times, we can grow them but we can't get any that has a taste to it, its weird. I hope yours turn out good.

I've never grown melons though I think you can grow them in the UK, I bet they are better than shop bought ones anyway. I've been growing tomatoes and chilli's mainly this year, and I have a pumpkin growing if it works (fingers crossed). I've got several types of chilli on the go one of them is an Italian variety called Satan's Kiss, they are little round ones that turn red and are quite hot.

I've never grown a watermelon. I've wanted to, but I didn't get a say in how he planted things and where. Looking good though Grandpa Bob! You better tell it to grow a lil faster as I know the growing season will be ccmming to a close soon here in WI.

Your watermelon are really growing. Yes I have had home grown watermelon. When I was a young girl my uncle did a lot of gardening and he grew watermelon. We would have them every summer. My uncle is now deceased and no one else in the family do any gardening. Plus all the vacant land now is occupied by some kind of building. I miss the good ol' days.

No. I have never had my own homemade watermelon. In fact I never see a watermelon on the ground. I don’t know what the watermelon plant looks like. I love watermelon, especially in the hot summer. Before in the summer I had watermelon a lot and it’s a cheap fruit at the season. But here in the UK the watermelon in the supermarket is so expensive. I just bought twice when it was on sale. Really juicy and sweet. Wish you enjoy your watermelon soon.

Well not really from my end. But in your case, that is a good thing. At least you can try and make a lucrative business out of it. You need not spend a single centavo buying one. Goodluck to you and hope your garden make really good.
