TYhis is a shot of the finishing touches of my Cottonwood tree being chopped down etc. This thing left cotton fuzz all over the yard etc each May and the shoots it sent off were very annoying. So my neighbor and I went half anfd half to get it cut down. Now that area of the yard is nekid. I have firerwood for awhile though. Hahaha! Do you have a fireplace or firepit for bonfires? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

We do have a fireplace but I can't tell you how long it has been since we have used. I do know if or when it is used again it will have to be cleaned out real good by a professional. If we lived in a colder place I know we would use one often in the winter time.

I miss the fireplace I had in my childhood home. I would dance in front ofd the flickering flames to watch my shadow on the wall. I got in trouble many a night for this as I would start a fire just for this purpose. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

That sounds like fun and a lot of good memories for you. Well fun except for the fires you would start. hahaha My grandson once when he was little brought in some twigs from outside and put them in the grate and they are still there. LOL

Did you have the stump cut right down to the ground? A place up the street from me had a huge tree taken down last summer. They use the stump as a base for several pots of flowers... looks nice. And when I lived in Guelph, someone had a tree taken down, but left about 5' of the trunk standing, which was carved (by chainsaw) into a teddy bear. They dressed it up for hallowe'en.

I don't have a fire place, but my parents do. My mom always wants to use it during the winter, but my dad doesn't want to mess with it. They had one of their trees cut down. It kept leaving sap on their cars, as the tree was in the front yard, close to the drive way. They didn't so much mind the pine cones that littered the front yard, as the sap that refused to be washed away.

As you should know, Grandpa Bob, I have both. Cottonwood is a good wood to use for kindling to start fires. We have a rackful of it and just use a few small pieces inside each time we start the fire for heat. hmmmmmmmm.....getting mighty dark here. I'm HOPING for RAIN. A good soaking rain for the gardens.

hey - do I remember you saying that you properly dispose of your old flags in your bonfires? I have a friend who has a small flag she wants to have honorably burned.

Don't have a fireplace, but I do have a cottonwood tree, they're pains in the butt, like you said, along with crabapple trees, leaving a mess all over the ground. Plant a nice lilac bush, lol!

Wish I had another crabapple tree. The one I have needs another for a pollinator. I didn't realize that when we cut one down several years ago due to it splitting right down the middle. The deer here miss them as I do. I love crabapple jelly. I would, however, just love to cut down all the cottonwoods cause I'm sick and tired of pulling up all their offshoots and unclogging my mowers and ac unit.

Trunk of Massive Cottonwood tree - Using a 100' tape measure to try and measure it. It's closer to 4' across.
Hiya Grandpa Bob..this one is a baby compared to the 100+yr. old Cottonwood out back that's right on the property line. The tree's trunk is over 3' across. It's MASSIVE as the picture demonstrates. Wish I had a tape measure that had larger numbers to show the girth but this will have to do. I also took a pic of as much of the tree as I could fit that I'll post if you comment.

no,but i'd like to get one. it's funny, homemade bonfires (like in a garbage can) are illegal here, but those store bought firepits (like they sell at home depot) are legal.

At the camper we have a fire pit....and I love to sit by it at night and make smores or just roast marshmellows though I can't eat alot of them as they are way too sweet!

Wow, I didn't realize how big that tree was!! I have a gas fireplace that's pretty useless. It doesn't put out much heat, I think it mostly goes up the chimney. The logs are ugly and obviously ceramic, not real. I thought it would come in handy if I ever lost power and needed some warmth but since it needs ventilation, most of the heat escapes.

No, I don't have a fireplace. Wish I did. I really miss the direct heat of an open fire or a pot belly stove. It's such a shame. Cottonwood trees are beautiful in shape and provide so much for us, but they do make a huge mess and so many people are allergic to all that fuzz.

That's the end of that cotton pickin tree. Now it won't look like you guys have snow in the month of may. Those guys are doing a great job cutting that big tree down. It's great that neighbor shared the cost with you. Great to have such nice and understanding neighbors. Bye Bye tree.
