Why do most Filipino women want to have white skin?

Philippines

First of all, I am a man and have a brown skin, and very proud of it because it's a nature for being a Filipino. When I was younger, I am really that particular with the color of skin of women but rather how they bring themselves and their self-confidence. However, I am just wondering why most Filipino women want to change their color from brown to white. I am also seeing a lot whitening products that are doing well in the market. Is being white really more beautiful than white? Thanks!

I guess it is human nature to want what you don't have, why do white womwn lay out in the sun, even risking cancer to get brown skin...we are a funny lot I think.

i agree with that too. People tend to envy others.. white skin seems to be more attractive to look at for them.

Well, you are right with that. Having whiter skin does not mean totally good looking. What is best is that you keep things natural as it is.

I also want white skin, although I am already have fair complexion. White skin looks neat and clean. They look fresh. Some describe beauty as white , magentic and spectacular. Some sees white skin as beauty because some of the stars or celebrities have white skin, so they like to have that too because celebrities look beautiful in tv. But truly white skin are more sensitive to skin disease than brown skin. They are sensitive to freckless because their skin is sensitive under the sun.

I think people just want what they cannot have. Caucasian women likes having tanned skin and use tanning lotions while Asian women like having white skin and use purifying lotions. It is a bit ironic but I think any skin color is pretty.

If filipino women want to have white skin because they don't have fair skin and for them it's beautiful. WHite women they wanted to have tan skin. oh this is crazy lolz. I have a tan/brown skin. And i love it, women here are so jealous on my skin, they always looked at me lolz.

most Filipina prefer to look whiter because of their belief that white skinned women are more attractive than those of the brownish or tan complexion. :) men were labeled to having brown skin and they're much attractive with that skin tone.

My wife has dark skin, "Morena" for the Pinoy slang, and that would be the reason why I got attracted to her. I guess it depends on the taste of the beholder. Some people love dark complexion while some like fair ones.

hi fatherblogger. I think its the standard of beauty in the Philippines. Filipinos tend to look at women with fairer skin attractive because thats how our celebrities look like. Most of the Filipino actresses have white skin and they would usually endorse whitening products. I think that's how most Asian women think. But the irony is, in the USA, women go to tanning salons which you can never find in the Philippines. You would see them for hours in beaches sun bathing. In the Philippines, we can find women with umbrellas to protect themselves from the heat of the sun.

I think there are some cultural and historical reasons. In some Asian countries white skin is considered to be beautiful and upper class colour. People in the lower class need to work under sunshine in long period. Their colours became brown or black. So it made the white colour a signal of class status and made people purchasing white colour. However it already changed a lot. Now people think no matter what color you face is, Smooth skin is the most important. But the make up producers still want to use the ideas to sell their products and mislead consumers.

It is the same story everywhere in the world! We in India are bombarded by fair skin products and bleaching services. Look at the Caucasians, they have the fairest of skins and yet spend millions to get tanned. Yes! they have a desire to look like a grilled sausage. I think it is what we don't have, that is most desirable. And it starts with the thing closest to us, our skin. In Asia almost all the folklore describes fair skin as a very desirable thing, and so the desire.

I don't know why this is the case, but I guess it is similar to why so many Western women want to be tanned rather than white! We simply want what we can't have, to be what we are not. I worked on a beauty site for a while and was astounded by how many whitening products we came across from Asia, I hadn't realised before what a big deal it was.

Sometimes people are not always satisfied as they look and if they're black, they would want whiter skin and if white, would like to have a tan. It's human nature I guess but it's not always good and it's much better to love what you have and treasure it.

Everyone seems to want what they do not have. In the States white women want to be tanned and brown. They get self tanners. I think the Filipina women I have met had beautiful skin, and the brown is really lovely.

I also wonder about that... I have this brown skin... not too light and not too dark... and i wouldn't change it for the world... i love my skin color and i think other Filipina should also feel the same way about their skin... I think the main reason why a lot of Filipinos go for these whitening products i because of those commercials and tv programs that promote being white is beautiful... and that should be outlawed... since it give the wrong impression that having brown skin is something not to be proud of...

I have seen these whitening products and some are quite dangerous and should not be used by anyone. But the important thing is that changing one's appearance from what it is to something else usually does not improve anything, except maybe the person's self-esteem, but I wonder why. So many people with white skin spend time and money trying to make it brown and then those with brown skin do the opposite! If I were male (which is hard to imagine!) I would not be attracted to any woman who used artificial means to try to change herself to something she is not.

haha =D IT's natural!!! That does not only applies to filippino woman, but other woman in asia too.. Just like some european man and woman, they are not contented with their fair white skin and thus they wann it to be tanned!! lol =D There are different meanings to beauty to all of us, and thus we can say, being white is really more beautiful.. BEauty lies in the eyes of beholder, and there's nothing much we can do to them ^_^ haha
