Is it an obligation to write back to people who responded to you ?

Hello friends,
Every time we start a discussion, we hope to get plenty of responses. And when that happens at times it gets difficult to respond back to every post. At least to me it becomes difficult because of the time constraint.
But I love to respond back. It’s like showing gratitude to the responder and also a way of making new friends.
So what’s yr reaction when you get a lot of response? Is it a feeling of obligation to write back to everyone or you pick and choose and then reply?
Cheers,
Tutul

If I start a discussion it is because I have something I want to discuss. When others take the time to respond and are interested in my topic it seems only natural to comment back to them and continue the discussion. It is exactly what I would do offline. If I ask a question and someone responds I do not just walk off and ignore them so I would not do the same thing here either.
If we start a discussion we are only earning for the first two responses (or the first response and comment). After that we earn no more unless we comment back. We do not earn for the activity of others, they do. Therefore by commenting to those who respond we earn for ourselves and we get to know the other users better and they will most likely come back and respond on any further topics we post.
MyLot is a discussion site therefore posting a question, receiving responses and not commenting back is not what we are asked to do here. It s not a question of 'obligation' but respect, in my opinion.

It's a great way to get to know users here
and if you keep them talking YOU get the opportunity to earn while having fun too!

Well there are a lot of weirdos both online and off, and some have landed here too, so it is no surprise that many here do not comment back when they start a discussion

Hey mys,
Thank you for responding. U made a very valid point that by responding you will get to know the user more and thus make more friends here. Iam not here to earn so I dont start or respond to discussions for earning.
At times I cannot surf internet due to whatever reasons and thus cannot respond back. So i feel a lil uncomfortable and get a feeling that I should have commented back to the user who took his/ her valuable time to answer my discussion.
Anyways thanks for your input.
Cheers,
Tutul

It's pretty rare that I don't reply back. Only if I just have nothing to say or the responder was confusing or they didn't read the discussion or something like that...

I wouldnt say Obligation. I have created a few of my own Threads/topics, and I respond to as many as possible, but its certainly not an obligation. Even if u simply say, thanks for responging.

It does take quite a bit of time but I think it is an act of courtesy to respond back as a way of saying thanks for taking of your time to read my discussion.
I have had times that the comment left was not worth my time to comment back on. For example, if it was a generic response. But in general it is common courtesy to at least say thanks for commenting when someone takes the time to read our discussions and then add their thoughts to it.
God bless you!

Hi mama,
Thanks for your wonderful and practical response. At times i get very confused reading some response and then post just an emote, lol.
But by responding back its a sign of thanking the user who read your discussion and responded. If i respond to some one i expect them to write back to me as well.
Cheers,
Tutul

I respond to replies out of respect and gratitude for the person who has taken the time to participate in a discussion I have started.

It is quite important to comment on the responses we have received to keep the discussion going for a long period of time. But to keep your discussion going and for you to be in the hot topics you need to be commenting back to the responses you have received. That way it keeps going up the list and more people are able to see it and they are able to respond and that way it keeps it in the hot category. In essence when you are having a conversation with fellow mylotters on your discussion then your discussion keeps going higher and higher. That is what I have learnt over the time I have been on mylot.

I do not start many discussions of the ones I respond back to are the ones that I want to add more to in a reply. When I reply to a discussion I do not want to get a reply that just says thanks for responding as it is really not adding anything to the discussion. I think the response should be of point counterpoint type of exchange which is an exchange of ideas, otherwise I do not bother with the politeness of thank you's and expect none in return.
I understand after the first response he do not get paid for additional responses although some people claim to be paid for the extra ones so I am not sure about that.

its great habit to comment back on someone's response. I think it is best way to show off your gratitude towards them. I dont think so is there any obligation , but its a proof that; as a discussion starter you have read his/her response. I always write comments on response to show my gratitude towards him/her and i take it as my moral responsibility to enhace their motivation towards more responses.
Happy mylotting!!

Hey ranvir,
Exactly my thoughts. But i give u a situation. Suppose u have a time limit and my lot is not loading quickly either. And u know u cannot be on for some days.
What will u do? U have no options but to read what the user has wrote and log off.
It has happened to me a lot of times and iam sure with a lot of other users too.
And i get a guilt feeling that I should have responded back.
Cheers,
Tutul

Hi tutul,
I always comment on every responses that I received. It is not an obligation but it is a right thing to be done for me. I might not comment everyone in one go. Maybe phase by phase.
Giving your comment to the responses that you receive will earn you something if your comment have quality. And you actually open the discussion to be discuss even further by comment and/or comment back. The more people involve in that discussion, the more opportunities for you to earn more.
Happy mylotting and have a nice day.

Hi akuler,
U have hit the head of the nail. I think i have to respond in phase wise too. Cant respond every one at one go. I will certainly look to do that.
Thanks for your valuable input and would love to hear from u in many more discussions.
Cheers,
Tutul

Hi tutul,
I started two discussions thus far. The first one I received only two responses which I responded without any hesitation. The second discussion did attract two/three pages of reponses. I responded to most of them by acknowledging and thanking their effort in joining my discussion, however, due to time constraint, for the very last few, I responded by summing them up. My apologies and I hope it was not considered impolite... Now that I've read all the comments here, I will make every effort to respond to each and everyone of you in my next discussion :)
